, B; M BREWSTER. UTENSIL REGEPTAGLE FOR STOVES.
No. 570,275. Patented 001;. '27, 1896.
UNITED TATES.
ATENT 0 FFICE.
ELIAS M. BREWSTER, OF NORlVICH, CONNECTICUT.
UTENSIL-RECEPTACLE FOR STOVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 570,275, dated October 27, 1896;
Application filed January 17, 1896. Serial No: 575,920. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIAS M. BREWSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, New London county, and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Utensil-Receptacles for Stoves, fully described and set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying sheet of drawings.
This invention has for its immediate object the provision of an attachment for cooking stoves and ranges in which may be kept for convenient use such utensils as are commonly employed in cooking, as, for example, a knife and fork, a spoon, a griddle-turner, salt and pepper boxes, the.
My said improvement is of the nature of a drawer that may be concealed, when not in use, beneath the overhanging stove-top, and said drawer is so constructed and so attached to the stove-top that air may circulate freely around the drawer to insulate the same and its contents from the heat of the stove. In order to insure perfect insulation, I prefer to make the major part of the drawer of wire screen, so that air may circulate freely through it as well as around it.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of a stove-top having my improvement attached thereto; and Fig. 2 is a View of the front or exposed end of my said drawer considerably enlarged. In Fig. 3 I have shown a view of the inner face of said front. Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line no a; of Fig. 1.
In the drawings the letter a indicates a stove-top whose rear portion projects a considerable distance beyond the body of the stove, said body being outlined by dot-ted lines in Fig. l. Underneath this projecting portion of the top is located my receptacle As here shown, said receptacle for utensils.
is formed as a longitudinally-movable drawer having end portions 1) b, to which are secured, by rivets c or other suitable means, sides (1 and a bottom 6. Said sides and bottom are here shown as of Wire screen, but they could as well be of perforated metal or of basket material, or the sides could be of imperforate form and the bottom of wire screen, my purpose being to provide in some Way for the free circulation of air through and around the receptacle to insulate it and its contents from the heat of the stove. The front and rear end sections Z) Z) are connected by rods 9 g, that are here shown as fitted to slide in holes a, drilled in the beveled edge of top a, and also in lugs a cast integrally with or secured to said top, as is best seen in Fig. 4=-of the drawings. By thus supporting the receptacle sufficient open space is provided between the top of said receptacle and the under side of the stove-top to allow the free outward passage of air that passes upward through the perforated bottom of said receptacle. The stove-top thus serves as a support for the drawer and at protecting cover or shield for the same.
A receptacle substantially as described may be cheaply attached to all stoves having a projecting or overhanging portion.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In combination with a stove having an overhanging top plate provided with perforations a substantially as set forth, a drawer having longitudinal side rods fitted to slide in said perforations, all being substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ELIAS M. BREIVSTER.
