JAMES H. HART, OF MEADERVILLE, MONTANA.
PRIMER FOR BLASTlNG-FUSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 569,871, dated October 20, 1896. Application filed October 14, 1895- Serial No. 565,584. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES H. HART, of Meaderville, in the county of Silver Bow and State of Montana, have invented a new and Improved Fuse-Igniter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to provide a superior igniter for fuses and one especially adapted for use in Wet mines. I attain this end by means of a sleeve capable of embracing the end of the fuse and having in its outer end a cap or primer, the sleeve being braced by a head which incloses that part having the cap or primer, so that the explosion of the cap will not result in a rupture of the sleeve.
The invention will be fully described hereinafter, and then defined in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a sectional View of my invention.
The fuse 16 may be of any known construction; and the igniter consists in a sleeve 15, receiving the end of the fuse and having at its outer end a frusto-conical head 15. The
outer end of the sleeve 15 projects slightly beyond the end of the fuse, and a cap or primer l sleeve.
The invention is adapted for use with any is fitted within this end of the suitable device by which the cap or primer may be fired. The purpose of the head 15 is to permit holding the igniter firmly While the cap or primer is being fired.
The device may be made separately from the fuse and applied to the fuse whenever desired, or each fuse may be supplied with one of the igniting devices.
It is also a purpose of the head 15 to strengthen the sleeve 15 and prevent the explosion of the cap or primer from bursting the sleeve.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Afuse-igniter consisting of asleeve capable of embracing the end of the fuse, a cap or primer secured in one end of the sleeve and capable of lying adjacent to the end of the fuse, and a head secured to the outer side of the sleeve and around that portion which receives the cap, the head being capable of strengthening the sleeve, substantially as described.
JAMES H. HART.
