BAKERS OVEN.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 569,799, dated October 20, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, EDWARD A. 0. PETER- SEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bakers Ovens, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

My present invention relates to certain improvements in the class of ovens shown and described in my Patent No. 252,054, issued- Jannary 10, 1882, and is particularly adapted to bakers ovens wherein steam is used during the baking process, as set forth in my Patent No. 512,623, issued January 9, 1894. Practical experience has demonstrated that where steam is used in this class of ovens it destroys and loosens the mortar around the ends of the pipes that conduct the heat and products of combustion through the upper part of the baking-chamber. After the steam has thus acted upon the mortar a portion of it escapes from the baking-chamber around these pipes, and there is also danger of smoke and gases entering the baking-chamber.

The object of my present invention is to so seal these pipes at their ends as to avoid any possibility of the steam producing leakages around the pipes.

My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

Figure I is a vertical longitudinal section of a bakers oven embodying my invention. Fig. II is an enlarged detail vertical section taken on line II II, Fig. I. Fig. V is a perspective view of one section or member of the sealing-boxes.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a bakers oven, which, as represented, is made in accordance with the patent referred to, 2 designating the pipes located in the upper part of the baking-chamber and through which the heat and products of combustion pass from the rear to the front of the oven. To efiectually seal the ends of these pipes and avoid the diificulty referred to, I employ a two-part box for each end of each pipe, each section of each box consisting of a plate 3, having ends 4. (See Fig. V.) The ends 4 are provided with semicircular recesses 5 to receive the pipe, and back of the plate 3 the ends 4 have extensions 6 between which the brickwork is built in, as shown in Fig. IV. Two of these sections being placed together, as shown, completely inclose the end of the pipe, and after they are placed in position and the brickwork built in behind them I fill the box with cement mortar, as shown in Figs. III and IV, thus completely sealing the ends of the pipes. The ends lot the boxes fit snugly against the pipes, preventing the steam from reaching the mortar, and thus permanently tight joints at the ends of the pipes are secured.

I claim as my invention- 1. In a bakers oven, the combination of the pipes for conducting the heat and products of combustion, boxes formed to receive said pipes, and a mortar filling; said boxes being each composed of two members, and each member consisting of a plate 3 having endset provided with semicircular recesses 5, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

2. In a bakers oven, the combination of the pipes for conducting the heat and products of combustion, and means for sealing the ends of the pipes consisting of boxes adapted to receive a mortar, each box consisting of two sections, and each section consisting of a plate 3 having ends 4 provided with extensions 6 and semicircular recesses 5, substantially as set forth.
