BOTTLE.

Be it known that I, SEBASTIAN S PECHIN- PAUGH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Centralia, in the county of Vood and State of lVisconsin, have invented ceri tain new and useful Improvements in Bottles, of which the following is a specification,

' reference being had to the accompanying 3 drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to bottles, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class which is so constructed and arranged that having been once filled and sealed the bottle may be emptied of its contents, but

cannot be relilled or reused without detection.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which- Figure lis a vertical section of a bottle provided with my improvement, and Fig. 2V

In the practice of my invention I provide a bottle A, having the usuaLneck B, the inner walls of which are provided with notches or recesses C, which may be annular in form, or simply formed in the sides thereof, as will be readily understood. I also provide a supplemental neck or nozzle D, arranged at one side of the bottle, as shown in Fig. l, and the 'top of which is provided with a thin glass y ried down along the rod F and passes through loops or rings k, connected therewith, and the lower end of which is bent at right angles a-nd connected with the return-arm G, as shown at k'.

In operation the small cork L, which is adapted to close the small neck or nozzle D, is put in while the bottle is empty, and this is done by placing said cork upon the pin or prong g of the head g, and the rod F is then inserted into the neck or nozzle B by means yof the return-arm II thereof, and the cork L, placed upon the pin or prong g', is then inserted into the neck or nozzleD from within the bottle, as will be readily understood, after which, by pressing downward on the handle E, the pin or prong g will be withdrawn from the cork L, which will be left in the neck D, and then by pulling upwardly on the wire K the spring-arm G will be drawn toward the rod F, when the corking device may be removed from the neck B. After this has been done the neck or nozzle B may be closed or sealed by a glass or other stopper, which is irremovably secured therein by means of cement or otherwise, said stopper being provided with side notches or recesses, which correspond with those formed in the neck B.

When it is desired to empty the bottle, the thin cover or cap d of the neck D is broken off and the cork therein may be withdrawn or driven downward into the bottle, and the broken cap or cover CZ will be evidence of the fact that the bottle has been once used, and

though the bottle maybe refilled through theA neck B and corked from the outside the absence of the cover or cap b of said neck will be proof of the fact, as hereinbefore stated, that said bottle has been once filled and emptied, and as additional precaution I may also place upon the cap or cover cl of the neck D a trade-mark or the name of the owner or manufacturer of the contents of the bottle.

In the form of construction shown in Fig. 2 the neck B of the bottle is provided with a thin cover or cap b and the bottom of the bottle is provided with a lliug-orifice M, which is adapted to be closed by a stopper N, of any desired material, after the bottle has been filled, which may be secured in position in any desired manner and be formed of any desired material, preferably of glass, and below which I also` place alayer of cement 0which, when it becomes hard, cannot be removed. The filling-orifice M is tubular in form, and the side walls thereof are also provided with notches or recesses, whichaid in securing the cork or stopper N in position and also in hold- IOO ing the cement O therein. In this form of VIS construction the cork L is inserted into the bottle and into the neck B through the iilling.- orifice in the bottom of the bottle before the bottle is filled, after which the filling-orifice is closed, as hereinbefore described, and in this form of construction when it is desired to empty the bottle the cap or cover b must be broken away, after which the cork L may be Withdrawn or forced downwardly into the bottle.

My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangementro'f parts shown and described, and I therefore 'reserve the right to make all such alterations therein and modilications thereof as fairly come within the scope of the invention.
