DOOR CHECK.
PatentedSept. 29; 1896;
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
ALEXANDER WRIGHT, OF WILMINGTON, DELAWARE.
DOOR-CHECK.
SPECIFICATION iorming part of Letters Patent No. 568,554, dated. September 29, 1896.
Application fi1ec1 May 14, 1895. Serial No. 549,334. (No model.)
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER \/VRIGHT, a eitizen of the United States, residing at Wilmington, in the county of New Oastle and State of De1aware, have invented a new and usefu1 Door-Check, of whieh the following is a speeification.
The object of the invention is to provide a eonvenient and durabie appliance f0r holding doors open.
In the drawings forming part of this specification 1ike letters denote corresponding parts in the severa1 views, in whieh Figure 1 is a view of a seetion of a doorjamb with the ivention app1ied to en door. Fig. 2 is a simi]ar view showing & difierent position. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the inventi0n, and Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal sectiona1 view.
In the drawings, A denotes the door-frame, and B the door hinged thereto.
My improvement consists of a base e, provided With a series of apertures f01 serews. 6 is an aperture to receive the shank e of the metallic turn-button 0, by whieh the parts are seeured together.. The turn-button is provided with a reeess 0 to receive a platespring d, whieh bears against the turn-button at eaeh end and against the base-plate at its center. 'Ihus the turn-button is prevented f10n1 getting out of position.
As will be apparent from the drawings, th shank of the turn-button is formed nearer one end than the other, thus allowing tw0 adjustments of the door, 0ne, as sliown in Fig. 1, where the short end engages the platte f and the other, as shown in Fig. 2, where the door is swung completely back and is engaged by the 1on ger end, the1ower faee of whioh engages the p1ate f, while in Fig. 1 the end of the turn-button engages the platte.
Having fu11y deseribed n1y invention, what I claim as new, and desire t0 secure by Letters Patent, is
In combinati0n a button adapted to be secured to the frame of a door With a spring embedded therein, said button having a1ong and short arm, the former engaging With its end the edge of the door when partly open, and the long arm engaging, With its faee, the door when entire1y open, asand for the purpose described.
