Be it known that I, EDWINE. DEMPSEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented an Improved Blowpipe-Lamp, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a soldering-lamp and blowpipe adapted especially for the use of jewelers, dentists, and Opticians for melting, soldering, and similar operations.
The objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a soldering-lamp constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a central sectional view of the same in a plane transverse to the axis of the reservoir. Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken in the plane of the axis of the reservoir. Fig. 4 is a detail view, partly broken away, of the supporting device for holding the blowpipe or nozzle in the desired position. Fig. 5 is a detail view of a petcock used in connection with the blowpipe apparatus for regulating the discharge of gas therethrough. j

1 designates a base having parallel sides or standards 2, between which is mounted the centrally-pivoted reservoir 3, adapted to receive gasolene or other volatile hydrocarbon fuel, the trunnions 4 of said reservoir extending through suitable bearings in the standard and being fitted with nuts 5 or similar fastening devices adapted to be tightened to secure the reservoir at the desired adj ustmcnt.
Located within the main reservoir and out of communication therewith is an auxiliary reservoir or compartment 6, designed for alcohol or other fuel, into which dips a wick 7, arranged in a wick-tube 8. The interiors of the two reservoirs are accessible through ports closed by suitable screw-caps 9 and 10.
In communication with the interior of the main reservoir by means of an interposed flexible tube 11 is a blowpipe 12 for dischargtion-with the usual diametrical opening or passage 14, with transverse oppositely-tapered channels or kerfs 15, which allow accurate adjustment of the blast discharged through the nozzle or blowpipe. In order to support the blowpipe in the desired position, I employ a bracket having an arm 16, provided with a terminal lug 17, upon which the nozzle rests, and clamping-bars 18 and 19, the former of which is permanently secured to the shell of the main reservoir,while the latter is adjustably :mounted thereon by means of bolts 20, provided with nuts 21. The supporting-arm 16 is interposed between the clamping-bars 1S and 19, and yielding cushions 22, of rubber or similar elastic material, are interposed between the adjustable clamping-plate 19 and the nuts 21 to exert a yieldingpr/essure upon the arm 16.
In order to increase the rapidity of vaporization in the main reservoir and cause a suitable interior pressure to discharge with the necessary force through the blowpipe, I provide a pump which, in the construction illustrated, includes a supply-pipe 23, having a controlling-valve 24, and terminating in a jettube 25, located within the main reservoir and inclined downwardly and inwardly to discharge upon the contents of the reservoir, the outlet of said jet-tube being reduced to cause the air supplied therethrough to be projected forcibly against the surface of the contained fluid and thus agitate and spray the latter and thereby produce an increased vaporization. The pump shown in the drawings consists of a bulb 26 of the ordinary construction connected by a flexible tube with the supply-pipe 23, but this feature of the apparatus may be substituted by any equivalent means for supplying air under pressure.
From the above description it will be seen that the entire apparatus is mounted for rotary adjustment, all the attachments being carried by the main reservoir which is centrally fulcrumed upon the frame, thus in- IOO volving a compact and simple arrangement adapted to be manipulated with facility to direct a tongue of flame in the desired direction upon an object.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to Without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having described my invention, What I claim isl. In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting-frame, of a reservoir pivoted upon said frame for rotary movement in a vertical plane and having blowpipe and pressure producing attachments, and an auxiliary reservoir carried by the main reservoir and having a communicating wiclctube, substantially as specified.

In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting-frame, of a main reservoir mounted for rotary movement in a vertical plane, a pressure-producing device in communication 4with the interior of said reservoir and including a jet-tube having a reduced outlet arranged to discharge forcibly upon the surface of the contents oi' the reservoir, a blowpipe in communication with the interior of the reservoir, and an auxiliary reservoir carried by the main reservoir and having a Wick-tube, substantially as specified.

In a device of the class described, the combination with a supporting-frame, of a main reservoir mounted for rotary movement in a vertical plane, an auxiliary reservoir carried by the main reservoir and having a Wiel:- tube, pressure-produein g devices in communication with the interior of the main res ervoir, a blowpipe iiexibly connected with the main reservoir, a bloWpipe-supporting bracket having a supporting-arm provided with a terminal lateral lug, clamping-plates between Which the supporting-arm is arranged, one of the clamping-plates being secured to the shell of the main reservoir, adjustin g-bolts connecting the clamping-plates, and yielding cushions arranged in contact with one of the plates, substantially as speci iied.
