SOLDERING APPARATUS.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER ULBRICI-I, a subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Leipzig, in Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Soldering Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to soldering apparatus of the type wherein a supply of fuel is carried in a container joined to the handle of the heating appliance.
The object of the invention is to provide a device whereby an eflicient flame can be produced and maintained without risk of back-firing.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a side view of the appliance, partly in section.
The apparatus comprises a cylindrical tube 1, closed at one end by a handle 2. At the rear part of the tube there is an aperture 4 for filling the same with fuel such as benzene or the like, said aperture opening into a cup 5 normally closed by a stopper 6. Screwed to the front end of the tube 1, is a nozzle 8, which has lateral air holes 7 near its rear end and tapers to a small discharge orifice 9. Near the latter the wall of the nozzle has a series of small burner orifices 10. Arranged in the tube 1, near the nozzle is a transverse wall 11 which, in conjunction with an absorbent mass 12, is adapted to hold backthe liquid in the tube 1. Above the wall 11 there is a tubular piece 12 having ports 13, 1& adapted to form a communication between the fuel chamber and the chamber 15 in front of the latter. The two ports 13, 14 are normally closed by an adjusting screw 17 provided wit-h a valve 16 and an air tight packing.
Inside the nozzle there is a small tube 29 which extends almost to the orifice 9 of the Specification of Letters Patent.

nozzle, and issues from the side of the nozzle in order to be connected by a rubber tube 30 to a rubber bulb 31 which is provided with a valve and is adapted to blow air into the flame, so as to produce a thin jet flame, which is projected toward the soldering iron 19 supported in front of the nozzle.
In order to start the production of combustible vapor the tube 1 is temporarily heated by means of a suitable auxiliary flame, the valve 16 being adjusted so that the vapor generated can flow through the ports 14, 13 to the chamber 15, and thence to the orifice 9. Air entering the nozzle through the holes 7 produces a combustible mixture, and. an additional supply of air is blown into the flame by means of the bulb 31. Small jets of combustible mixture issuing at low pressure from the orifices 10,
serve for the maintenance of small flames the heat of which, together with the heat of the flame at the orifice 9, serves to continue the evaporation of the fuel in the tube 1, so that the application of the auxiliary flame can be discontinued.
hat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is 2- A soldering burner comprising a chamber for vaporizable fuel, a nozzle joined to said chamber and communicating therewith, a tube entering said nozzle, a compressible bulb for forcing air through said tube into said nozzle, and a valve outside said chamber controlling the communication between the chamber and the nozzle.
