Be it known that l, FREDERICK PoLLAnD, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio,` have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Show-Cases, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact description.`

My invention relates to brackets for use in the interior of show-cases for supporting glass shelves and it consists of the several parts and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and especially claimed.

The object of my improvement is to provide a bracket of the class designated above which is particularly neat and tasty in appearance, easily adjusted to various heights, cheap, and durable. The standard alone, or the standard and bracket proper together, enhance the appearance of the case rather than detract therefrom, as do some of the brackets now in common use. The peculiar construction of this device enables a person to adjust two or more of my brackets at the same level with little or no difficulty, and insures the shelves against being pushed offand broken.

My invent-ion consists, essentially, of two parts-viz., the standard A and the `bracket proper, B. The holder A comprisesthe back 1, preferably of wood, and the face 2, preferably of sheet metal, stamped into a more or less fanciful design. The face 2 is formed onto the back 1 and secured thereto by screws or in any other suitable manner. Centrally nected by the brace 11.

located in the face 2 is the channel 3, in which are theelongated holes 4, larger at the top than at the bottom. The groove 5 is formed in the back 1, behind the holes 4, and the thin metallic strip 6 is fastened to the back 1 by a screw passing through the top of said strip. `As many of the standards A as may be required are screwed to the back of the showcase 7, the number being determined, in a measure, by the length of said case and of the glass shelves S therein.

The bracket B consists of the horizontal member 9 and the vertical member 10, con- The pin or screw 12 is inserted in the rear end of the member 9 with its head somewhat remote therefrom. In the back ofthe member 10 is the groove 13 to receive the heads of any screws which may project into the channel 3, thus securing complete contact between 'said member. and the face 2. The head of the screw 12 is inserted in the top of the desired hole 4 and forced down behind the contracted part of said hole, thereby securely holding the bracketB in position with its `member 1,0 bearing in the channel 3. `The edges of the contracted portion of the hole 4 are snugly embraced between the end of the member 9 and the head of the screw '12, said screw resting at the base of said hole, and the bracket B is quite rigidlyattached thereby to the standard A.V The bracket B is quickly detached from the standard A by simply raising said bracket sufficiently for the head of the screw 12 to clear the contracted part of the hole 4.

Thebracket B may vary in construction from the exact form shown and described, provided the vertical member beladapted to rest in the channel 3 and the pin or screw 12 be retained. The bracket members 9 and 10 may be of different lengths to accommodate different widths of shelf 8. The lowest brack- IOO thereon (best shown in Fig. 5) are used when it is desired to rest the ends of two shelves on one bracket. Y

The strip 6 is forced backward in the slot 5 by the insertion of the head of the screw l2, but in the absence of the brackets B said strip closes the holes 4 and materially adds to the appearance of the standards A, since it is polished to correspond with the face 2. W'ere it not for the strip 6 the holes 4 not covered by the brackets B would show black and look bad.

The back l can be formed out of the back of the show-case, if desired, and the face 2 affixed thereto.

The glass shelves in a show-ease often get pushed off of their support and nicked or broken. I provide against such an occurrence by drilling a hole in the center of each shelf 8, at the rear, and also one in the rear of the bracket member 9, and inserting the pin l5 in said holes when said shelf is in place. The

pin l5 holds the shelf 8 securely in position because of the central location of said pin. The shelf S can be removed from the bracket VB by first taking out the pin l5.

Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination in a bracket for showcases, of a back having a groove therein, a face provided with a channel and elongated holes in front of said groove, a bracket arranged to fit said channel, and a pin or serer on said bracket adapted to enter any of said holes and attach said bracket to said face, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. The combination in a bracket for showcases, of a back having a groove therein, a face provided with a channel and holes in front of said groove, and a strip in said groove for closing` said holes, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination in a bracket for showcases, of a back having a groove therein, a face provided with a channel and elongated holes in front of said groove, a strip in said groove for closing said holes, a bracket arranged to fit said channel, and a pin or screw adapted to enter any of said holes and attach said bracket to said face, substantial] y as and for the purpose set forth.
