Description

(No Model.)
I M; LOPEZ.
I v BAT FASTENER. No. 568,031. Patented Sept. 22, 1896.
FIG.2.
' WITNESSES.
UNITE-1) STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MANUEL LOPEZ, OF SALE, ENGLAND;
HAT-FAST'EN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,031, dated September 22, 1896. Application filed October 24,1895. $eriel No. 566,722. (No model.) Patented in England February 5, 1895, No. 2,490.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MANUEL LOPEZ, a subject of the Queen Regent of Spain, residing at Sale, in the county of Chester, England, have invented certain new and useful Improved I-Iat-Fasteners, (for which I have received Letters Patent in England, No. 2,490, dated February 5, 1895,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an appliance for attaching to hats or other head-coverings to hold the same more securely upon the head to prevent them being removed or displaced by a sudden gust of wind or the like.
In carrying out the invention it will be fully described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of hat, showing the invention applied thereto; Fig. 2, a transverse section of same; Fig. 3, a perspective view of the appliance removed from the hat.
A plate or clip A, of a suitably-curved shape to correspond with the head of the wearer, is pivoted to the edge of the hat-brim vso as to project outside the hat D and come in contact with and grip the head lower down than where the hat covers. It is made with a loop a on the back, which engages with a wire or fastener B, to which it is pivoted and by which it is attached to the hat. The fastener B is'stamped .out of sheet-steel or other metal, with projecting prongs b, which are inserted in the material of the hat D to secure it firmly in position, and with aloop b, which plate A of curved shape provided on its back passes through the loop a of the clip A and 3 5 forms a pivot therefor.
The loop a in the back of the clip A is so placed and the clip so pivoted that when not in wear the clip or plate lies in the same plane as the brim d, but when in wear the upper 40 end is brought up inside the hat between the hat-body or hat-leather and the head, and the other end is pressed downward below the level of the hat-brim to engage or grip the head of the wearer. The wires which form the pivot may be passed through the material and secured there in any convenient manner, or the wire may be attached to a plate riveted or stitched to the material. When not required in use, the clip A may be disconnected 5o and removedfrom the fastener B.
What I claim. as my invention, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A hat-fastening attachment comprising a with a projecting loop placed at the center and a staple B provided with a loop I) by which the curved plate is attached thereto and upon which it swivels and projecting prongsb by which the appliance is attached to the hat substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MANUEL LOPEZ.
