Description
AUNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY C. RICHARDS, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVED PROTECTOR FOR CORNERS OF STAIRS AND ROOMS.
Specificationforming part of Letters Patent N0. 56,800, dated July 31, 1866.
.To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'I, HENRY G. RICHARDS, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Corner-Protector, of which the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
My improved corner-protector has reference to the application to corners of stairs, rooms, or compartments of blocks or webs of metal or wood which shall answer the purposes of ornament and strength.
Nos. l, 2, and 3 are modited forms of my improved corner-protector.
The geometrical view in No. l represents one form of corner-protector, made of sheet metal, iilling a corner, the angle view being an elevation, and the sectional view being taken transversely through the protector and bisecting the corner of stairs or compartment.
The geometrical view and sectional view in N o. ,2 exhibit a more ornamental form of corner-protector, and more durably secured in place.
The geometrical, angle, and sectional views in No.3 represent my improved corner-protector provided with a brace, which guards against indentation of the protector Where light metal is employed.
The corner-protector may be of any pattern,
as shown in the geometrical views in Nos. 2 and 3. Where great security is desired, the protector is secured in place by three, or more, if necessary, nails or screws, A, as shown in the geometrical view in N o. 2. Where strength is an object, or Where there is danger of indentation, which would mar the looks of the protector, a brace, C, projects from the inner surface of the plate B, and rests upon the iiocr or step, as seen in the sectional view in No. 3.
The great advantage this protector subserves is in filling up sharp corners, which present lod gin g-places for dirt, thus euablin g the housecleaner to accomplish more work in the same time and with greater ease; also, the protector answers as a brace, and as a iinish is much to be preferred to the square corner.
Having ful-ly described my improved corner-protector, its use and advantages, I make the following claim, which I desire to secure by Letters Patent:
As an article of manufacture, the cornerprot-ector constructed of metal, wood, or other Suitable material, as and for the purposes herein described.
HENRY C. RICHARDS.
