Description
. obvious from the following detail description UNITED STATES THOMAS P. OONARD5OF WE ST GROVE, PENNSYLVAN. A.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE SHAVlNG-CA-SES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,7 l 5, dated July 31, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS P. GONARD, of West Grove, in the county of Chester and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Portable Shaving-Gase 5 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had.to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Thepresent invention consists in combining, with a box or casing suitably constructed to receive the various articles necessary for the shaving of a person, and, if desired, for the toilet after such operation, of any suitable water-heating apparatus; and, second, in so arranging or connecting the water-heating apparatus with the main portion or body of the case that, without detachingittherefrom, wat-er can be heated in it without occasioning the least injury to the case by the heat of the lamp or other heating device employed, as will be ofthe shaving-ease, reference being had to the` accompanying plate of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the shaving-ease with all of its parts opened, showing its interior construction `and arrangement 5 Fig. 2, a similar view to Fig. 1, but with a portion of the case containing or holding the shavingutensils, Src., closed, but with the heating apparatus open and in vertical section 5 Fig. 3, a transverse section taken in the plane of the line x as, Fig. 15 Fig. 4, a view of the shaving case when closed, and Fig. 5 a transverse section taken in thc plane of the line 1/ y, Fig. 4.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A in the drawings represents the main or box portion of the shaving-case, which, in the direction and for a part of its length, is divided into three parallel and narrow compartments, B, (l, and D, suitable for the reception of a razor or razors5-shaving-brush, hair-brush, and dressing-comb, and any other articles desired or necessary to be used for the proper shaving of a persons beard 5 E, a soap-drawer, placed below the compartments B, G, and D, and arranged so as to slide out and in 5 F, a cover or lid hinged to one side of the casing A, and made of suitable shape and size to entirely cover the compartment portion of the casing, it being secured in position across the same by means of clasps or fastenings a a G, a water vessel or'reservoir, made of a cylindrical form and hinged, through a connectingpiece, H, hinged to it, to one edge, I, of the main or box portion A ofthe shaving-case, so that it can be swung out or into the same, the connecting-piece H serving to bring the waterreservoir, when swung out of the casing, into such a position that, when heat is applied to it through the medium of a lamp, J, similarly hung to the box-casing and under the watervessel, no injury shall be occasioned to the main portion of the casing. This position of the water-vessel is plainly shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings, and in Fig. 5 the vessel is shown incased in the outer box, A.
i K is a cover or lid, hinged to the portion of the box A containing the heating apparatus, which lid is made of suitable shape to extend over and entirely cover or inclose the heating apparatus when swung into the casing, it being secured in a closed position by suitable fastenings or clasps L, which hook over the studs of the central portion-ot' the box AQ From the above description of my improved portable shaving-case it is apparent that in its construction and arrangement it is extremely simple and compact, and that it can be made of various materials, such as sheettin, or other metal, or wood in some of its parts, and that for convenience or use it is all that could be desired, especially by persons traveling.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-,
A case or box constructed to receive the various implements or appurtenances necessary or desirable in shaving, together with a heating apparatus, substantially as described.
THOS. P. CONARD.
Witneses:
GEoRGE T. SATTERTHWAIT, Jos. PYLE.
