Description
UNITED STATES GEORGE SOHOLL, OF NEW PHILADELPHIA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT |N BATHlNG-APPARATUS.
Specifica-tion forming part of Letters Patent No. 118,750, dated September 5, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE ScHoLL, of New Philadelphia, in the county of Tuscarawas and State of Ohio, have invented an Im proved Portable Bath, of which the following is a specification:
My invention, as its name implies, consists in a portable bath which may be easily transported from one apartment to another, having' aprovision for containing its own supply of water, receiving and holding the water after having been used, and for concealing the bather, and is adapted to be carried to and used in any apartment without interference with the other occupants.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of myimprovcd bath. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, showing the bath in readiness for use. Fig. 3 is a vertical section, showing the bath closed.
A represents the casing or exterior covering, which may be similar in construction to an ordinary clothes-press, but extending only a few inches from the wall. B is a tank on top ofthe case A, for containing water, having a door, b 5 and O a shelf' upon which a lamp, C', may be placed for heating the water. D is a folding-door which, with the door E on the other side, serves to conceal the bather. F is an exterior' blding-door hinged at the bottom, the two sections /being hinged at the center of the door and the upper one having a ledge or stop,]", against which the outer edge of the pan G rests. The door F may have latches of connnon construction, or springcatches at top and at the sides. Gis the pan for containing the used water. It is removable for the purpose of emptying, or the water may be discharged into a drain or trough by means of the pipe g, which may be stopped with a cork. His a pipe with a rose-nozzle, h, and having a cock, L, the pipe H being arranged to open a faucet or valve-cock for letting on the water. When not in use, the doors D and E are folded up so as to be inclosed within the case A, and the exterior door F raised and secured by the latches at the sides an d top. These carry up with them the pan G, which is thus also secured within the case A.
For use, the door F is lowered and the interior doors D E thrown open, the outer part of the door D being folded over against the door E so as to completely close the entrance to the bath and protect the bather from observation, and secured by an interior latch or bolt. The bather may then turn the pipe H, .letting on the water/f" from the tank B. The amount of water delivered through the rose-nozzle h is regulated by theturncock h. The water, after performing'its office as a shower-bath, falls into the pan G, which may be removed and emptied, or its contents may be discharged through the pipe g into any convenient receptacle, as before stated.
When a warm bath is desired a lamp, C', of any convenient description may be placed on the sh elf C, by which the water may be rapidly heated.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the tank B, pipe H, pan G, the folding sides D D E, and exterior door F, constructed and operating substantially as described and represented.
GEORGE SCHOLL.
