Description
ROYAL E. DEANE, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPRovED cARvING-TABLE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,387, dated October 2, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
B@ a known that I, ROYAL E. DEANE, of ai@ city, county, and State ot' New York, have iuvented a new and Improved Carving-Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the aci parts.
i This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in carving tables, such as are used in restaurants, hotels, Src., for holding meats while being carved and keeping them in a warm state.
Y The invention consists in constructing the top of the table, on which the dishes of meat are placed,' in the form ot' a shallow vessellof rectangular shape, and provided with a lon gitudinal central partition, as hereinafter fully shown and described, whereby a current of hot water is allowed to pass around withinthe top of the table underneath the dishes of meat and keep the same in a warm state, the chamher or vessel formed by the table-top communicating with the waterback or water-heater of a range or furnace.
The object of the invention is to obtain a table for the purpose specified, which will be simple in construction, possess no parts liable to get out ot' repair, and which maybe kept in a proper warm state with a moderate supply of hot water.
A represents the top ot' the table, which is constructed in the form of a rectangular sha1- low pan or vessel supported at a suitable height by any proper framing, B. The top A of the tablehas bars a secured transversely upon it at a proper distance apart to support the dishes, and a partition-plate, b, is placed longitudinally and centrally Within the top A, said plate not extending the whole length of the top, a space, c, being allowed `at one end to form a communication between the two compartments d d, as shown clearly in Fig. 1.
Each compartment d. d', at the end opposite that where the space c is allowed, communi cates, by means of pipes e e', with the water back or water-heater of a range or furnace, so that a current of hotwater will pass cont-inually through the compartments el d, as indi; cated by the red arrows, the water from the heater passing up through pipe e into the com partment d, and passing through the compartment d and through the pipe c into the water back or heater.
By this arrangement the dishes containing the meat will be exposed to a large heatingsurface. The current of water through the compartments d d is induced simply by the action, no static pressure or other force being required for the purpose. f
The top of the table being entirely open, it will, ofcourse, be seen that the sides of the top, and also the partition b, must be of such a height as will admit of a requisite depth of water in the top.V Nota great depth of water is required, however, owing to the continuous current.
rIbis carving-table may be constructed and applied at a very small cost, the heating apparatus being of the simplest form possible, involving only the cost of a few feet of pipe to connect the top ofthe table with the water back or heater.
- What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A carvin g-table havin g a top, A, constructed in the form of a shallow vessel, divided by a longitudinal central partitionplate, b, one or more, with a space, c, allowed at one end to form a communication between the two compartments d d', and the latter made to commu nieate, by means of pipes e e', with the water back or heater of a range or furnace, substantially as herein shown and described.
ROYAL E. DEANE.
