Be it known that I, ENOCH K. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Awnings, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to awnings, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive awning that is readily removable, and has other advantages, as will be set forth.

The invention consists of the various features hereinafter explained.

In the drawings forming part of this specification and in which like letters designate similar parts throughout, Figure l is a perspective exterior view of an awning embodying the various features of the invention and attached in place. Fig. 2 is an interior elevation. 3 is a detail view of the slide-rod.

The awning-cover A is attached to the head-rod B preferably by stitching, and the frame 0 is provided with slides D, engaging the slide-rods E, fixed to the frame of the window. The rods 13 and E are made removable by providing them with readily-removable connections for attaching them to the window-frame. The removable connection preferred for one end of each rod comprises an aperture a in the rod and a turnbutton I), adapted to pass through the aperture. For the other end of each rod an eye 0, fixed in the window-frame and adapted to receive this end of the rod, is preferred. These eyes and turn-buttons may both be in the form of ordinary screw-eyes. By these means the head-rod and the slide-rods may be all removed readily with the awning frame and cover. The slide D, as shown in Fig. 4, may be permanently attached to the frame 0 and need not, as heretofore has been necessary, be detached from the frame. Heretofore when the awnings were taken down to be stored away for the winter the slide-rods were left in place attached to the windowframes on account of the difficulty and inconvenience of detaching them, and the slides were detached from the framesand left on the slide rods. "When the awnings were again put up, it was often found that many of the nuts employed to secure the slides to the frames were lost, and considerable inconvenience and expense were involved in replacing the nuts. According to the present invention these slides maybe permanently secured to the frames because the slide-rods are so readily detachable.

The cords F are attached in the usual manner to the frame O of the awning, and pass up over pulleys G, attached to the head-rod B. Heretofore it has been customary to attach the pulleys to the window-frame and leave them there when the awning was taken down. They, however, were often lost and corrosion rendered useless many that remained. 13y attaching them to the readilyremovable l1ead-rod they may be taken down with the awning and saved unimpaired. To prevent the cords from sagging inside the awning, I provide suitable fasteners, as shown in Fig. 2.

Various changes, which will readily suggest themselves to any one skilled in the art, could be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as herein expressed.

Having now described the various features of my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. An awning comprising a cover, a headrod, a frame permanently attached to the cover, slide-rods, and slides attached to the frame and engaging the slide-rods, the headrod and slide-rods being secured in place by readily-detachable connections, the detachable connection for one end of each of said slide-rods consisting of an aperture in the rod and a turn-button or other suitable fastener to engage it, substantially as set forth.

2. An awning comprising a cover, a headrod, a frame permanantly attached to the cover, slide-rods, and slides attached to the frame and engaging the slide-rods, the headrod and slide-rods being secured in place by readily-detachable connections, the detachable connections for one end of each of said slide-rods consisting of an aperture in the rod name to this specification in the presence or and a turn-buttonor other suitable fastener two subscribing Witnesses. to engage it, and the detachable connections for the other ends of these rods comprising 7 5 an eye fixed in the Window-frame to receive Witnesses:
