J. DICKSON. CASE FOR TOILET ARTICLES.
Patented Aug. 25, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT GFFIC.
JENNIE DICKSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CASE FOR TOILET ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,505, dated August 25, 1896.
Application nea May 16,1896. serai No. 591,872. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JENNIE DroxsoN', a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a cer tain new and useful Improvement in Boxes or Cases for I-Iolding Toilet Articles and the Like, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in a box or case which is divided into compartments adapted to receive the various articles of toilet hereinafter mentioned and which is so constructed and arranged that it, together with its contents, may be readily and safely carried in the pocket or hand.
The object of my invention is to provide a box or case adapted to contain in a compact form an alcohol-stove, provided with means for extinguishing the flame therefrom, a pair of curling-tongs, a flask for alcohol, a comb, matches, and, when desired, a mirror securely attached to and within the lid of said case or box, thereby providing means for carrying said necessary toilet articles in the pocket or hand in a form which is perfectly safe by reason of the various tight-fitting lids and which is always ready for use.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter set forth and described, and more particularly pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
The invention is illustrated by the accompanying drawing, which is intended to reprey sent an enlarged view of the box with its va rious compartments and articles of toilet therein in perspective.
In the drawing the letter a denotes the boxorcaseproper, made, preferably, ofnickelplated metal and provided with a hinged spring-lid l) and a suitable catch for secur ing said lid when closed. This box or case is divided into separate compartments by suitable partitions preferably made integral with it.
o denotes one of these compartments de signed for the reception of an alcohol-stove d, preferably made elliptical in shape and integral with or securely attached to said box.
e is a compartment which holds the curling-tongs f when they are not in use.
g is a division adapted to receive the iiask h, containing alcohol for replenishing the supply of material in the stove.
The compartments t' 11 are for matches, and j is to be used for the purpose of carrying a comb.
A looking-glass or mirror may be secured to and within the lid Zn, ifv desired, as shown in the drawing, and lettered 7c.
The stove d is provided with a lid d', preferably spring-hinged thereto, for extinguishing the iiame therein and preventing the escape or leakage of the alcohol in said stove.
In practice I make the case preferably of thefollowing dimensions: length, four inches; width, two and one-half inches, and depth one and one-quarter inches.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to haveprotected by Letters Patent, is-
A pocket-case consisting of the herein-described box having a hinged lid, match-compartments extending along one side of the box, a compartment for the flask extending only a part of the length of the box, a stovecompartment likewise extending only a portion of the length and provided with a hinged lid, and a space between the stove and the flask-compartments and also at their ends, for containing the curling-tongs: all substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereto affixed my signature, this 15th day of May, 1896i, in the presence of two witnesses.
JENNIE DICKSON.
Witnesses F. T. WnN'rwoR'rH, GEORGE H. BROOKE.
