BOTTLE-STOPPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 565,233, dated August 4, 1896.
Application filed October 25, 1895. Serial No. 566,833. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. ROBINSON, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stopper Attachments for Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and improved stopper attachment for bottles; and it consists in the novel features of construction and relative arrangement Of parts hereinafter fully described in the specification, clearly illustrated in the drawings, and particularly pointed Out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying one sheet of drawings, forming a part of this application, in Which like characters are used to indicate like parts wherever they Occur.
Figure l represents a longitudinal sectional view Of a tube which forms a part of my improved attachment. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal sectional view of the Washer that together with the tube and the cooperating parts form my improved attachment, the washer being designed to be slipped upon and attached to the tube. Fig. 3 represents a lon- ,gitudinal sectional view of the tube and washer assembled. Fig. 4. represents a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the parts assembled and secured together. Fig. 5 represents a cross-sectional view of the attachment on the lines 5 5 of Fig. l. Fig. 6 represents a sectional view showing the attachment in place in the bottle.
In carrying out my invention I employ a tube a, that may, if desired, be provided at its lower end with screw-threads a' for engagement with the cork a2.
b represents a washer, having an upwardlyextending flange ZJ', apertured in one or more places, as at b2. The washer b is slipped down upon the tube a, as shown in Fig. 3. By means of a suitable tool a portion b3 of the material of the tube is struck down and forced over the ange b in one or more places and into the depressions Or apertures h2, as shown in Figs. 4. and 5, thereby firmly locking and retaining the Washer and tube together to prevent, among other things, the former turning or twisting on the latter. The upper end of the tube is then perforated, as shown in Fig. 4, and provided with 4screw-threads to engage the cap CL4. It is immaterial upon which side of the washer b the flange b is situated. The material b3' may be struck up from the tube u, so as to form a ange, or it may be struck up only at intervals, the object being tO bind the washer' and tube together and to prevent the washer turning on the tube.
A completed attachment designed to be inserted in the stopper a2 and fitted in the bottle is shown in Fig. 6, the washer or flange b resting upon the top of the bottle c and permitting the contents of the bottle c to be shaken Or turned out through the tube, as is common. Y
Having thus explained the nature of my invention and described a Way of constructing and using the same, though without attempting tO set forth all Of the forms in which it may be made or all the modes of its use, what I claim, and desire to secure -by Letters Patent, is
l. A stopper attachment for bottles comprising in its construction a tube, a washer arranged thereon and formed with apertures, and retainers struck up from said tube and entering said apertures forming a permanent locking means, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A stopper attachment for bottles comprising in its construction a tube, a washer arranged thereon, and retaining means formed by material struck up from said tube adapted to enter into engagement with said Washer, to form a permanent locking means, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
