4 menrs Fa ms 00. FHQYDLITNO,WASKINGYON a c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM B. BOLTON, OF SHARPSVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
WASHTU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 563,908, dated July 14, 1896.
Application filed $eptemher 9, 1895. Serial No. 561,943. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM B. BOLTON a citizen of the United States, residing at Sharpsville, in the county of Mercer and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in lVashtubs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to legs for supporting washtubs, and it includes a set of removable legs, with means for adjusting the same, to permit of the raising of the tubs to various positions in order that persons of different heights may use the same with equal advantage by adjusting the legs, as will be hereinafter described.
The invention also includes the details of construction, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation; Fig. 2, a detached sectional view of one of the legs with the attaching-plate therefor. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on line a; w of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the wedge-plate. Fig. 5 is a detail view.
A tub of ordinary construction is shown at 1 in the drawings, to the side of which is secured a series of plates 3, having tapered sockets formed therein. Any desirable number of these plates may be used, but in the present instance I have used but three, these being the minimum number that are necessary. In the sockets formedin these plates 2 a wedge-shaped plate 4 is adapted to be removably held, said plate l carrying the socket 5 for the reception of the legs 6, which are adjustable within the same, being held in adjusted position by means of the thumbscrew '7. The plates 4 may also be held within the socket of the plate 2, and prevented from falling out when the tub is lifted, by a thumbscrew 8. It willbe understood that said socket is tapered sufficiently to prevent the plate 4: from slipping out of the same when it is inserted therein, and that the screws 8 are not absolutely necessary, as the wedge would ordinarily be held by the frictional contact between the same and the sides of the ribs 4.
Having now described my invention, what I claim is- The combination with a washtub, of the plate secured thereto, havin g a tapered socket, the wedge shaped plate removably fitted thereto and carrying a second socket and the leg held therein, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
XVILLIAM B. BOLTON.
