- E. LENNEY.
,ABRAGKET.
No. 562,229. Patented June .16, 1896.
Attorney UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDIVARD LENNEY, OF POTSDAM, NEW YORK.
BRACKET.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 562,229, dated June 16, 1896.
Application filed March 9,1896. Serial No. 582,439. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD LENNEY, a citizen of the United States,-residing at Potsdam, in the county of St. Lawrence, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brackets, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to improvements in brackets and is especially designed to be applied to barrels, hogsheads, boxes, bins and the like to afford a rest for the receptacle which is to be filled from the contents of said barrel, hogshead, &c.
. The present application in the drawings shows the invention as adapted to be applied to the exterior of the article to which it is to be applied, but it will be understood that with slight changes it may be secured to the inside.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap bracket for the purpose specified; and it consists in the matters hereinafter described and referred to in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a bracket embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a slightly-different form, and Fig. 3 shows still another modification.
In the drawings the bracket is shown as formed of a number of pieces of wire bent to proper shape, these pieces of wire being connected at A. In Figs. 1 and 2 the external or main wire B is formed on a curve and at each end is bent to form hooks B for attachment to the chimes of a barrel of sugar or other commodity being weighed out. The other pieces of wire a b c d are of varying lengths, but at each end are bent around the wire A adjacent the hooks B. Bracing-wires e extend in an inclined direction across the bracket from the point f to about the center of the wire B, and-wires or other fastening devices secure these bracing wires or rods to each of the curved wires, as shown. In the preferred form (shown in Fig. 1) there is a central rod or wire 9 passing centrally between the wires a and B, and upon this is pivoted a triangular bracing-piece 0, adapted to be folded flat against the bracket when the same is not in use, but, when the hooks B are hung on the barrel, it bears against the side thereof and prevents any undue strain on the hooks B. Pivoted to the wire a is a stay having a loop D, adapted to receive the forward end of the brace C and prevent it from lateral movement when in use, this stay being also pivoted to the Wire a, so as to fold outof the way when not in use. In Fig. 2 I
' have shown a device similar to that shown in Fig. 1 except that the stay-wire D is dispensed with. It will be understood that in these two figures the hooks B instead of forming a part of the wire B may be formed separately and pivoted thereto to fold out of the way when not in use substantially as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In this figure the two external wires a B and the cross-rod g are shown as formed in one piece, while the wires 19, c, and dare bent as shown and secured to the inclined bracing-rods in the manner described in connection with Fig. l. The triangular bracing-piece O is the same as shown in connection with the other figures.
It will be understood that, as far as the main features of the invention are concerned, I do not wish to be limited to details of construction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A bracket adapted for attachment to a barrel or other receptacle composed of a series of wires suitably secured together, forming a stand and provided with hooks adapted to be secured to said barrel or other receptacle, and a folding brace-piece secured to said bracket; substantially as described.
2. A bracket adapted for attachment to a barrel or other receptacle, composed of a series of wires suitablysecured together, forming a stand and provided with hooks adapted to be secured to said barrel or other receptacle, and a folding brace-piece secured to said bracket, and a pivoted stay-wire adapted to engage the brace-piece and prevent lateral movement thereof; substantially as described.
3. Abracket composed of aseries of curved wires forming a crescent-shaped base and having a plurality of hooks secured thereto, a central cross-rod, inclined brace-rods, and
a folding brace-piece pivoted on the central and suitable bracing-wires; substantially as cross-rod; substantially as described. described. 1o
4. The herein-described bracket compris- In testimony whereof I affix my signature ing an external wire formed with integral in presence of two witnesses. 1 5 hooks, a second external wire secured at each EDWARD LENNEY.
