PICTURE-FRAME HANGER.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES H. FREEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania,have invented'certain new and useful Improvements in Picture- Frame Hangers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to improvements in picture-hangers; and it consists in a certain novel device to be attached to the rear side of picture-frames, more fully described hereinafter, and specifically pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a picture-frame, showing my improved hanger attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view; and Fig. 4 is a detached view of the hanger similar to that shown in Fig. 2 but of a modified form of my invention.

In Fig. 4 I have shown a modification, in which case the rod B is dispensed with and the portions B B, extending downward from the supporting-frame B, are formed of sections linked together and to the supportingframe B, the last section being secured directly to the picture-frame by screws passing through the eyes b It will be readily seen that by placing the ad justing-loop C in the last inset 011 the bar D and then pressing the upper port-ion of the frame forward the loop 0 will slide upward over the projection D and engage the insets d d. In this manner the picture-frame may be quickly adjusted to any angle desired.

I am aware that picture-frame hangers are not novel, as is plainly shown by the state of the art. I therefore do not claim, broadly, a means for supporting and adjusting pictureframes, but a device of peculiar construction whereby a'picture-frame may be quickly and safely adjusted, and in a sense automatically, insomuch as it requires no resetting or adjusting of the parts comprising the hanger, but simply to press the picture-frame to the angle required when the parts engage each other and hold the frame securely in the position to which it has been adjusted.

Having now shown and described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination of the picture-frame, a bar D rigidly secured and projecting from the rear portion of said picture-frame, a series of forwardly-inclined projecting teeth D formed on the upper surface of said bar, a supporting-frame B having downwardly-extending legs B adapted to be secured to the lower end of the fixed frame, said frame B having at its central upper portion an integral hangingloop B and a horizontally-disposed loop 0 hinged or looped at its rear end to the picture frame B, and adapted to engage with one or other of the projecting teeth D of said bar D, substantially as specified.

2. The combination of the picture-frame, a bar D rigidly secured to and projecting rearwardly from the upper portion of said pictureframe, a series of forwardly-inclined projecting teeth D formed on the upper surface of said bar, a supporting-frame B comprising the upper horizontal bar, a centrally-disposed integral loop B, and depending rods or legs B terminating at their lower ends in loops or eyes, a horizontal bar B secured to the lower end of the picture-frame and provided with loops or eyes Z) engaging with the similar In testimony whereof I affix my signature loops or eyes at the lower end of the rods or in presence of two witnesses.
