UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICEO JUSTUS DAY, OF MURRAY, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT-IN MACHINES FOR HOLDING SHEEP FOR SHEARING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,188, dated July 10, 1866..
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUsTUs DAY, of Murray, in the county of Orleans and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Machine for Holding Sheep in a Position to be Sheared; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a front elevation.
Like letters refer to like parts.
A represents a bench, to which is attached, at right angles or perpendicular to it, the standard or post B. To this post the forked arms G and D are attached by means of the bolts passing through the slots E E into the .post.
The upper forked arm, D, has a strap fastened on one side and a button on the other side, by means of which the strap can be fastened across the fork. F F are pins which hold the arms from moving up or down.
G is a revolving table, turning upon the center H. At I I are straps and buckles. J J J, &c., are pins, which are inserted into the table at nearly right angles to it and near its outer edge, opposite the buckles.
At K Kis a cross-piece, which is framed into the bench under the revolving table, to
sustain the same. The front legs of the bench are the highest.
The mode of operating the machine is as follows: Place the sheep upon its haunohes on the table; buckle down itslllind legs by means of the straps and buckles I I; place its body in the fork of the arm 0 and its neck in the fork of the arm D, and fasten it by means of the strap, which is on one side, and the button, which is on the other. The body of the sheep may be strained more or less, or placed in any desired position, by moving the forked arms (I and D out or in, or up or down, or by turning the revolving table Gr one way or the other.
The pins J J J, &c., retain the fleece entire JUSTUS DAY.
