The Schedule referred t'o in these Leiten Patent und making part of the amie.
To whom it may concerne I n Be itknown that we, FRANCIS M. PATTERSON and HENRY P. MILLER, of Seymour, in the county of Jackson and State of Indiana, have invented a new Areference marked thereon, and being a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of our cutting-tool. Figure 2 is an end vicw of the-same, wthjreversible guide. Figure 3 is a longitudinal section on the line x x in Like letters refer to like parts iu each figure. The nature of this invention relates to the construction of an edging-tool, especially designed for the use of saddlers and harness-makers, for vthe purpose of taking down or cutting off the edges on leather straps for raised work in harness-making. This work, which is now done with the round knife, is a very tedious and dicult operation, which this device will be found to'obviate.
The invention consists in au arched knife properly secured to a metallic frame, and in such a manner that it may be easily removed'for the purpose of being sharpened, in combination 'with guides within which are inserted reversible gauge-blocks, by. means of which straps of various width and thickness may be l operated upon.
In the annexed drawing- A represents an arched or angular, Knue, which is secured to the cast metallic frame B at the front end thereof, said knife having its arched portion uppermost, and extending across said frame, at right angles with the sides thereof, and presenting itscutting-edge to the rear.
- The frame 15 has a base which rests upon and is secured toa proper table or' board, and two vertical sides, B', facing each other, and extending in parallel lines hack from said knife for a suitable distance, serving as guides for the reversible gauge-blocks hereinafter described.
C are reversible gauge-blocks, the upper `and lower sides of which are provided with projecting libs or guides D, of varying distances apart, so as to accommodate various widths of straps, and gnide'them to the center of the knife, the angles of which will cut i it between the metallic prolongations ot' the frame,l
taking care not to push it up to the knife until the end ofthe strap has been passed under .the knife.
Then push the gauge-block up to the knife and draw .the strap through.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
'The angular knife A, in combination with the mctallic frame B, provided with guides B', and the gaugeblocks C, provided with ribs D, when constructed and arranged as described, and for the purpose s et forth.
E. M. PATTERSON.
