IVILLIAM RUBEN \VHITE, OF KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE.
COMBINED COUNTER, DRAWER, AND SHOW-CASE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 561,743, dated June 9, 1896. Application filed May 25,1894. Serial No. 512,449. (No model.)
To all wfiom it may concern.-
Be it known that LWILLIAM RUBEN WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at- Knoxville, in the county of Knox and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Counter, Drawer, and Show-Case; and I do hereby declare the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to counters, drawers for counters, and show-cases.
The object of my invention is to combine all three together in such manner as tomake one part of one device serve as a part of one of the other devices and thereby make a compact and handy construction for the purposes intended. Minor objects will also be set forth in the body of the specification.
The invention consists of constructions and combinations, all as will hereinafter be set forth in the body of the specification and pointed out in the claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents a perspective of the front and side of the combined device, and Fig. 2 a transverse section of the same.
A represents the end of the counter; E, the top; 11 N B, the front, and F a post intermediate of the ends for supporting the inner open and the box 0 projects far enough to the rear to form a shelf M, which can be easily reached by a person behind the counter, thus giving additional room without detracting from the room for the drawers.
To prevent goods on shelf M from passing too far to the front, a wall 0 is placed upon the top of shelf M. This wall also serves as a front support for the top E of the counter.
To advertise the wares and also to indicate the contents of the drawers below, a chamber for holding samples of the contents of the drawers is formed in the front part of the counter. This chamberD is reduced in depth by a partition G, which acts as a brace for the parts N and O of the counter. The chamber is covered with a frame B, having a glass center, and is moved by sliding it upward and over the counter, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 2. A groove Z) is formed in the part N to receive the lower edge b of the frame B.
What I claim as new is A combined counter, drawer and show-case; consisting of a counter open at the rear; a box projecting from the front toward the rear of the counter and having the shelf and openings; drawers in said openings, a wall 0 restin g upon said shelf and supporting the front end of the top; a front part N, a chamber above the box in the front part of the counter and having a partition for connecting the wall 0 and part N; and a sliding cover for the chamber, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
\VILLIAM RUBEN IVIIITE.
