SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 560,557, dated May 19, 1896. Applioation filed January 31, 1896. Serial No. 577,517. (No model.)

Be it known that I, CATHERINE A. I/VIL- LIAMSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, in the State" steels, either at the 'front or back of the corset at the waist-line.

My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

Figure I is a perspective view showing my attachment applied to use at the front of a corset. Fig. II is an enlarged perspective view of the attachment removed. Fig. III illustrates a modification.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an ordinary corset, having the usual steels 2 and 3.

4 represents my attachment. The attachment is made of a thin plate of about the width of one of the steels, the material I prefer using being spring-steel. The plate is provided with spring hooks or catches adapted to slip over the edge of the corset at the steel and hold the plate in place. These hooks or catches are formed integral with the plate by cutting openings 4: around portions of the plate and bending the cut-around portion into the form of a clip having a bow 5, an inturned portion 5 and an outturned lip 5 as shown clearly in Fig. II. 1 For the purpose of making the attachment as light as possible and at the same time adding to the flexibility of the plate I cutout portions of the plate, these cut-away portions forming elongated openings 6.

In Figs. I and II, I have shown the plate of a width to reinforce but one of the steels, while in Fig; III, I have shown the plate with a portion 7, adapted to lie beneath the other or adjacent steel to strengthen or support it. In Fig. III the dotted line A indicates the meeting edges of the corset.

The attachment can be readily applied to the steels of any corset at either thefront or back of the corset, and is designed to be attached at the waist-line for the purpose of supplementing or strengthening the steels at this point.

I claim as my invention a A corset attachment comprising a thin narrow metal plate 4 formed in one piece with longitudinal openings 6,with transverse openings 4:, and with transverselyextending spring-catches in the form of clips struck up from the transverse openings; each catch having an outwardly-projecting bo'wed portion 5,

an inturned portion 5 and an. outturned lipped portion 5 partly lapping the adjacent transverse opening from which the catch is formed; substantially as described.
