TOY MATCH-EXPLODER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 560,115, dated May 12, 1896.

Application filed June 13, 1894.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EMORY A. TRUSSELL, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain useful Improvements in Vises for Exploding Fulminate Matches; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

This invention has relation to a new and novel improvement in toys, and comprises a device for exploding fulminate matches.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a side view of my toy. Fig. 2 shows an end view with portions removed. Fig. 3 shows a central sectional view with portions removed, showing the explosive in position.

A A represent the two operating-handles of my improved toy, which are provided with two similar half-jaw portions B. These jaw portions are preferably rounding, but of less than half a circle, and are provided upon one side with the disk 0, as is more clearly shown in Fig. 3. These two half-jaw portions are connected by means of a central pin a, and when the operating-handles are open provide a segmental opening, as shown in Fig. 3, adapted to receive the head of a suitable match. The head adapted to receive the explosive comprises the two similar half-jaw portions B, as shown in Fig. 2. These two similar half-jaws are provided with the bars A A, terminating in the handles 0. sive stem 0, of wood, twine, or any other suitable material, is placed. The explosive, as shown in Fig. 3, is gradually crushed between the jaws B until the front opening of the jaws is closed by the non-explosive stem 0 of the explosive. The explosion is then practically within a hermetically-closed chamber, which chamber, by bringing the handles together, is made smaller and smaller until the pressure upon the detonating explosive is so great that the same is exploded, finding a vent in driving the non-explosive stem before it. The composition of the explosive may be of any suitable combination of chemicals, and good results may be obtained by simply using the composition of which the heads of ordinary parlor-matches are made, the matches being provided with a non-explosive stem.

Now, having thus described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent, is-

In a toy device for exploding fulminates, the two similarly-shaped arms A A, each provided at one end with a circular perforated hub B, said hubs being reduced in thickness on their inner adjacent faces forming projecting portions of less than half a circle, whereby said hubs are adapted to interlock, the pivotpin a for uniting the parts, an explodingchamber being formed by the converging walls of the segmental hubs B, and the side plates 0, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
