Be it known that I, FRANK D. GRAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Maumee, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish-lVashers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usc the same.

My invention relates to dish-wash ers.

The object of the invention is to provide a dish-washer which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, comparatively inexpensive of production, and exceedingly effective in cleansing' dishes and other articles desired to be cleansed.

With these objects in view the invention consists of certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, F igure l is a perspective view of my improved dishwasher, showing the dish-receptacle in position to wash the dishes. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the dish-receptacle elevated from and supported by the water-receptacle to allow the water to drain off the dishes. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional idew, the parts being in the position shown in Fig. l. Fig. i is a detail perspective of the dish-receptacle removed from the water-receptacle.

In the drawings, l denotes the water-receptacle, which preferably consists of an approximately semicircular vessel, comprising a curved or rocker-formed bottom 2 and sides 3. This bottom is curved upward and forms the ends 4C of the receptacle, and the ends are curved upward and inward at U denotes the dish-receptacle, which is preferably of the contour of the water-receptacle, and consists of the side pieces 7 and of the foraniinous or reticulated bottom 8, secured thereto. rlhis receptacle is provided with a compartment 9 for such small utensils as cups and saucers and articles as knives and forks. rlhe compartment is formed by the upper cross-rods l0, which are connected to the sides of the receptacle, and by the verti` cal wires 1l, extending from the cross-rods to the bottom of the receptacle,

In operation the water-receptacle is partially filled with water. The dishes are placed into the dish-receptacle, which is submerged in the water. Now by rocking the water-receptacle the water therein will be dashed through the bottom of the dish-receptacle and will thoroughly cleanse the articles contained therein. The operation is exceedingly simple, and the device may be supported either upon a table or upon a cooking-stove, the latter of which will keep the water hot while the dishes are being cleansed. After the dishes have been thoroughly washed, the dishreceptacle is lifted from the water and supported upon the water-receptacle and the water allowed to drain from the dishes back into the receptacle. The rocking motion imparted to the water-receptacle will not cause the water to be thrown out of the receptacle over the ends thereof, inasmuch as the water will be directed by the inwardly-curved ends of the water-receptacle inward and be dashed upon the dishes.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood without requiring further explanation.

The device is exceedingly simple, may be manufactured at a small cost, and is very easily operated.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent7 is In a dish-washer, the combination with a water-receptacle adapted to be rocked, of a dish-receptacle comprising a reticulated bottom having a shape corresponding to that of the bottom of the water-receptacle and adapted to seat against the said bottom of the water-receptacle, the longitudinal side rods 7, the series of angularly-bent vertical transverse rods ll, and the horizontal transverse rods 10, all combined as and for the purpose specified.
