JOSEPH A. DAVIDSON, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 558,639, dated April 21, 1896. Application filed August 16, 1895. Serial No. 559,471. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH A. DAVIDSON,
v a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to hat-pins or to pins for similar purposes-such as scarf-pins, pins for attaching garments, &c.; and the object thereof is to provide means for holding the pin in position or for preventingits accidental displacement or loss; and with this and other objects in view' the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompa' nying drawings form a part, in Which- Figure 1 represents my improved pin, which is provided with two heads, one of which is removable; and Fig. 2, a side view of the removable head, looking in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1. I
In the practice of my invention Iprovide a pin A, having a fixed head 13, and the end of the pin A opposite the fixed head B is provided with a lance-shaped head 0, at the base of which, on one or both sides, is formed a recess or recesses D, or in place of the recess or recesses I may employ an annular groove or recess.
The removable head E, which is shown in vertical transverse section in Fig. 1, is provided with a socket F, which is similar in form to the lance-shaped head 0 of the pin A,
and secured in one side is a spring-operated plug G, which is adapted to act in connection with the recess or groove D to hold the removable head in position upon the pin.
The operation will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings. As shown in the drawings, the operation of the plug G is automatic, and the head E may be connected with the pin by simply inserting the latter thereinto, as shown in Fig. 1.
My invention, however, is not limited to the peculiar form or construction of the parts herein shown and described, and I therefore reserve the right to make such alterations in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the various parts as fairly come within the scope and spirit of my invention.
, Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- As an article of manufacture, a pin, having a fixed and a removable head, the point of said pin being lance-shaped in form, and the removable head being provided with a V- shaped socket or recess into which said point is inserted, said head also having a spring-actuated bolt or pluglocated in a recess at right angles to said V-shaped socket, said plug being adapted to engage the transverse recess in the point of said pin, to retain the same within said head, substantially as described.
Intestimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 13th day of August, 1895.
JOSEPH A. DAVIDSON.
