To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT LESLIE BRAND,

a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Cuff-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to cuff-holders; and theobject thereof is to provide an effective device of this class which is simple in construction and operation and which may be easily and readily attached to the sleeve of a shirt or the wristband thereof, and which may also be readily attached to a cuff, so as to hold the same securely in position.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which Figure l is a sidev elevation of my improved cuff-holder, showing the manner of connecting the same with a sleeve of a shirt and with the cuff; Fig. 2, a plan view of the holder, and Fig. 3 a central longitudinal section thereof.

In the practice of my invention I employa plate A, to the outer end of which is hinged a strap B, which is provided with an inwardlydirected extension 0 at its outer end, and mounted on the plate A is a band D, which is adapted to encircle said extension when the strap B is folded adjacent to the plate A, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3. Mounted on the plate A is a slide E, the outer end of which is downwardly curved, as shown at F, and said slide is held in position by keepers G, connected with the sides of the plate A, the outer end of which is also downwardly curved so as to correspond with the curved portion F of the slide E, as shown at K.

The inner end of the slide E is provided at each side with upwardly-directed shoulders L,'with which is pivotally connected a link M, the other end of which is pivotally connected with side jaws N, near the upper middle portion thereof, and the inner ends of which are pivotally connected at O with upwardly-directed shoulders or projections formed on the sides of the plate A.

The jaws N are united at their outer ends by a plate P, which is formed integral therewith, and said plate P is provided with a projecting tongue R, the outer end of which is bent downwardly, as shown at S, to correspond with the downwardly-curved portions F and K of the slide E and the plate A, these features of construction being all clearly shown in the drawings.

The operation will be readily understood fromthe foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawin gs. In securing the cuff in position or connecting the same with the sleeve of the shirt the strap B is inserted through one of the buttonholes thereof, as shown at T, Fig. 1, or a similar hole provided for the purpose, and is bent backward and held in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The tongueR of the plate P is then raised, in which operation the slide E is forced backward by means of the link M, thus forcing the band D back over the extension 0 of the strap B and securing it in place, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Aportion of the shirt-sleeve, or the wristband thereof, is then placed between the projections F and K of the slide E and the plate A, and the tongue R of the plate P is then pressed down into the position shown in Fig. 1, in which operation the slide E is drawn forward and the sleeve or wristband is securely held between said projections F and K, and the tongue R is then depressed and the projection S thereon forced over the projection K, as clearly shown in-said figures, when the parts will be locked together, as will be readily .understood and as shown in Fig. 1.

Then it is desired to release the cuff, the above described operation is reversed, the projection S is released, and the plate P raised, and the device may then be released from the sleeve. In order to release the cuff, the band E must be moved forward so as to release the projection G of the strap B, when the holder will be readily removed from the cuff.

My invention is not limited to the exact form, construction, and arrangement of parts shown and described, and it is evident that changes therein and modifications thereof may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, and I therefore reserve the right to make all such alterations as fairly come within the scope of the invention.

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A cuff-holder, comprisinga plate, a strap hinged to one end thereof and adapted to be connected with the cuff and a slide connected with the other end, the adjacent ends of said slide and said plate being downwardly curved so as to form hooks or projections and means for holding said parts together, and connecting the same with a sleeve of a shirt, substantially as shown and described.

2. A cu If-holder, comprising a plate, a strap hinged to one end thereof and adapted to be connected with the cuff and a slide connected with the other end, the adjacent ends of said slide and said plate being downwardly curved so as to form hooks or projections and means for holding said parts together, and connecting the same with a sleeve of a shirt, comprising side jaws pivotally connected with said plate, a link pivotally connected with said jaws near the upper central portion thereof and with the inner end of said slid e, said jaws being also provided with a top plate by which the device is operated, substantially as shown and described.

A cuff-holder, comprisinga plate, a strap hinged to one end thereof and adapted to be connected with the cufi and a slide connected with the other end, the adjacent ends of said slide and said plate being downwardly curved so as to form hooks or projections and means for holding said parts together, and connecting the same with a sleeve of a shirt, comprising side jaws pivotally connected with said plate, a link pivotally connected with said jaws near the upper central portion thereof and with the inner end of said slide, said jaws being also provided with a top plate by which the device is operated, and said top plate being provided with a projection or tongue having a downwardly-directed, or hook-shaped portion, by which the projections or hooks on the slide and on the plate are clamped together, substantially as shown and described.

4. A cuitholder, comprising a plate, a strap hinged to one end thereof and adapted to be connected with the cuff and a slide connected with the other end, the adjacent ends of said slide and said plate being downwardly curved so as to form hooks or projections and meansfor holding said parts together, and connecting the same with a sleeve of a shirt, comprising side jaws pivotally connected with said plate, a link pivotally connected with said jaws near the upper central portion thereof and with the inner end of said slide, said jaws being also provided with a top plate bywhich the device is operated, and said topplate being provided with a projection or tongue having a downwardly-directed, or hook-shaped portion, by which the projections or hooks on the slide and on the plate are clamped together, and said plate being also provided with a band which is adapted to operate in connection with the hinged strap and hold the same in place, substantially as shown and described.
