COLLAR OR CUFF BUTTON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 644,273, dated February 27, 1900.
Application filed March 1, 1898. Serial No.6'72,135. (No model.)
is a full,.clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
The invention has reference to an improve ment in links adapted for use as cuff or collar buttons to secure the ends thereof together.
The invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction of a bar bent near its center into a spiral loop, one end of the bar being provided with a ball or button permanently secured thereto and the other with a ball or button detachably secured, as will be more fully set forth hereinafter.
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved cuffbutton, showing the same secured to a cuff. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. an enlarged view, partly in section, showing the detachable button secured to the bar.
- Fig. 4 represents a modification showing the same in connection withan overlapping cuff or collar.
In the drawings, a indicates a bar of wire the central portion of which is bent into the spiral loop 1). At one end of the bar a is permanently secured the ball or button 0. The
other end of the bar a is screw-threaded and has the internally-screwthreaded ball or button d secured to it, so that it can be removed. e represents one side of a cuff, and f the other side.
Fig. 3 is When this link button is to be secured to a cuff, the ball d is removed, the end of the bar CL is inserted through the buttonhole on one end of the cuff, and the spiral loop is as if it were screwed through the buttonhole, and when the loop has passed through the end of the bar is passed through the opposite but= tonhole and the ball or button (1 is secured thereto, as shown in Fig. 1. When used on an overlapping cuff or collar, the end of the bar a, from which the ball or button (I has been removed, is passed first through the buttonhole at one end of the cuff or collar, followed by the spiral loop and then through the other, when the removable ball can be secured.
By the use of my improved link button'eyelets may be formedvin the cuff or collar in place of buttonholes. While the removable ball or button cl may become loose, the main part of the link cannot be lost.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent 7 In a cuff or collar button, the combination with the bar a, the spiral loop I), and the button c permanently secured to the bar, of the screw-threaded end of the bar a, and the internally-screw threaded button 01, as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
