MIKE MORANO AND WILLIAM DANIEL GANN, OF TALLADEGA, ALABAMA.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 557,596, dated April 7, 1896.
Application filed November 5, 1895. Serial No. 568,055. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MIKE MORANO and XVILLIAM DANIEL GANN, citizens of the United States, residing at Talladega, in the county of Talladega and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact de scription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in plows, the height of which can be regulated to increase or decrease the depthfof the furrow turned, and the handles of which may also be adjusted to accommodate them to persons of varying heights.
The object or the invention is to provide an improved plow of the above character which shall possess superior advantages with respect to efficiency in operation.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a plow constructed in accordance with our invention, the handles being removed. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the plow, the handles being in place.
In the said drawings the reference-numeral 1 designates the plow-beam, which may be of any ordinary or suitable construction, provided at the rear end, on the top and bottom sides, with metal plates 2, to which is secured a plate 3, formed with side flanges 3 at the rear of and a short distance from the end of the beam. Secured to the lower end of this plate is an inclined bar 4:, to the free end of which is pivoted the curved standard 5, to the lower end of which the shovel is connected. This standard consists of a curved metal bar bent over at the center and extended upward, so as to embrace the beam 1, and there connected together by a rivet 6. Secured to the beam 1 is a plate 7, having its upper edge formed with ratchet-teeth, and pivoted to this plate is a lever 8, provided with a pawl 9, which engages with said ratchet-teeth. To the lower end of the lever is pivoted a link 10, also pivotally connected with the standard.
The numeral 12 designates the handles, the ends of which are inserted between the rear end of the beam and the side flanges 3 of the flanges 3. The handles are then secured in place by screw-bolts 13, by unscrewing which and moving the handles up and down they may be regulated to accommodate them to a man or boy.
By operating the lever 8 the foot of the standard may be raised or lowered and be held in its adjusted position by the pawl engaging with the ratchet-teeth of the plate 7.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with the plow-beam, provided at its rear end with top and bottom plates, the rear plate 3, secured to said top and bottom plates and provided with side flanges, of the pivoted curved plow-standard provided at its lower end with a shovel, the pivoted inclined bar 4 connecting the lower end of the plate 3 with the curved plowstandard, the plate 7 secured to the plow-beam, and provided with ratchet-teeth on its upper convex edge, the pivoted lever provided with a pawl engaging the teeth of the ratchetplate, and the pivoted link 10 connecting the lever and plow standard, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
MIKE MORANO. \VILLIAM DANIEL GANN.
