Description

(No Model.) -0. ANDERSON.
I MOVABLE DISTRIBUTING SPOUT FOR PUMPS.
No. 556,041.. Patented Mar. 10, 1896.
' \ll'll UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ODIN ANDERSON, OF DES MO INES, IOWA.
MOVABLE DISTRIBUTING-SPOUT FOR PUMPS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 556,041, dated March 10, 1896.
Application filed April 16, 1894. Serial No. 507,803. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ODIN ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a Movable Distributing-Spout for Pumps, &c. of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a spout adapted to be attached to pumps operated by wind-power or the like, so that the flow may be directed into different vessels without moving the vessels or shutting off the power that operates the pumps.
My invention consists in the construction of a device for supporting a trough directly beneath the spout of a pump, and be capable of swinging in either direction so that the flow from the pump may be directed into various receptacles without shutting off the flow of water from the pump, as hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in whicl1- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device applied to a windmill pump. Fig. 2 is a front view of the same applied to a wooden pump, its movement being indicated by dotted lines.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, the reference-letter A is used to indicate an iron pump adapted to be operated by a windmill or other suitable power.
B indicates a curved bracket detachably se-V cured to the pump-stock by means of a rod B screw-threaded atits ends and passed through the base of the bracket and around the pumpstock, nuts B being provided to secure the bracket to said rod. The top of said bracket is rounded at O to form a journal for purposes hereinafter explained.
D indicates a trough of any suitable ordinary construction having a block D at its rear under side provided with an opening adapted to receive the journal 0, so as to support the spout in an approximately-horizontal position beneath the pump-spout, and to permit it to be readily turned in any direction.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States therefor, is
A movable distributing-spout for pumps comprising a bracket designed to be secured to a pump-stock and extended upwardly to a point beneath the pump spout, a vertical journal on its upper end, a suitable distributing-spout and a block secured to the inner under surface of the spout having a bore therein to admit said journal to a sufficient depth to support the trough in a horizontal plane, substantially as and for the purposes stated.
