NITE
CHARLES YV. PATTON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CHURN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 324,879, dated August 25, 1885.
Application filed Jnnc 27, 18S/I.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLns W. PAT'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chnrn-Powers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention has relation to improvements in churn-power mechanism; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangementof devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth, and particularly pointed ont in the claim appended.
In the accompanying drawings,in which si mlar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures, Figure l is a perspective view of my invention, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional detail view.
In the said drawings, A indicates the base, which is suiiiciently broad to form a substantial brace for the churn-operating mechanism and a receptacle for the churn-body.
B indicates the upright carrying the oper ating mechanism. This upright is firmly secured at its lower end to the base-block A, and inclines upwardly and forwardly, or in the direction of the churn-body, so that the dashcr guidcarms may overhang the churn, (the same being of tapering form,) and the dashcr-rod brought truly above the churn Without necessitating the use oflong and clumsy guide-arms. The post also tapers upwardly from base to top.
C C indicate the dashcr guide-arms, which are secured to the upright and extend laterally therefrom to partially overhang the churn. These arms are provided with vertical slots c for the passage of the dashcr-rod, the branches b of which are transversely perforated, as shown, to receive the transverse pins c, for holding the said rod in the slots of the guidearms.
D indicates the drive-wheel shaft, which is provided at its forward end with the drivewheel E, having one of its spokes provided (No model.)
and the inner ends of the dashcr guide-arms also threaded for insertion into the upright.
From theforegoing description, taken in con nection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be obvious.
I am aware that it is not new to provide a conical sheet-metal frame for supporting a churn-operating mechanism, and that it is also old to provide guide-arms for the dashcr rod with open slots, and therefore do not claim such devices, broadly; but,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The device herein described, consisting of the flat base A, the tapering npright B, inclined as described, and provided with the guide-arm apertures, the detachable guidearms c, having the vertical open slots a, and the transverse pins for locking the dashcr in the said slots, the horizontal shaft carrying at one end the pinion g and at the opposite end the drive-wheel E, the tube h, surronding the said shaft and provided with the lubricant-receptacle II, and the pitinan and gear-wheel carrying the crankarm, substantially as specitied.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES W'. PATTON.
