To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY H. NORRINGTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vest Bay City, county of Bay, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Savings-Banks; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in savings-banks, the aim of my invention being to provide a bank for this purpose of simple and economical construction, which may be readily collapsed for shipment and other purposes, and which in ay be readily held in expanded position.

My present application is more particularly designed as a modification of an invention embodied in a previous application filed by me June 13, 1895, Serial No. 552,627.

My invention consists of the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter specified and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view in perspective illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the device.' Figs. l and 2 illustrate the device in expanded position. Fig. 3 is a view in elevation showing the device collapsed.

My present invention embodies a head A, which may be made of any suitable material, as of pasteboard, for example, the head being preferably made with inwardly-extended iianges c, although the iianges are not essen tial to my invention.

B denotes an additional head, which may be of similar construction to the head A. The two heads are connected by a exible fabric or any suitable flexible material C, forming an interior chamber C. The heads A and B thus connected with the fabric C may be collapsed, the one adjacent to or within the other, as indicated in Fig. 3. One of the heads, as the head A, may be provided with a suitable slot a" for the insertion of money into the bank. The connectingfabric C forms a suitable background for advertising matter if desired, and Obviously, advertising matm the heads also.

To hold the heads A B with the connecting fabric C in expanded position I preferably provide a base D, which, as shown in Fig. 2, is provided with a fastening device D', consisting, in the instance shown, of an ordinary staple with its prongs or arms turned outward beneath the card. To each of the headsA B, I have shown connected a band E, which may consist simply of an ordinary rubber band. These bands may be engaged in any suitable manner at one end with the adjacent head and be passed over the adjacent end of the base D and looped over one of the prongs of the fastening device D, as indicated in Fig. 2, the two ends of the base D being preferably recessed, as shown at d, to receive the band and hold it from lateral displacement. The bands E E may, however, be held to the base D in any suitable manner to hold the heads A B with the fabric C in expanded position. Any fastening device may be employed to hold the bands in engagement with the base. By detaching the adjacent ends of the bands E E from the fastening device it will be seen that the one head may be collapsed or telescoped adjacent to or within the other head, the flange of the outer head forming a protection. The one head is preferably made smaller than the other, so as to telescope into the larger head. When collapsed, as indicated in Fig. 3, the heads A B with the connecting fabric C and the bands E occupy but small compass for mailing and analogous purposes, the base being detachable.

That I claim as my invention is- In a savings-bank, the combination of two heads, a flexible material connecting said heads and forming with the heads the body of the bank, a base provided with a fastening device, a band connected with each of said heads having detachable engagement with said fastening device, said fastening device connecting said body to said base, substann tially as set forth.
