Beit known that I, CHARLES H. KAUF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vestern, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Self- Measuring-Faucet Attachment, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in attachments to self-measuring or other faucets.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive attachment in the form of a vertically-adjustable shelf or support for upholding a jug or other vessel beneath the nozzle of a faucet, said attachment being designed to be connected directly with said faucet.

Another object of the invention is to construct the shelf-support in such manner that it may be easily and readily applied to or removed from the faucet when desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide the vertically-movable shelf with adjustable jaws oppositely and reversely disposed, whereby the angle of the shelf may be regulated and wear compensated for.

To accomplish the objects above enumerated the invention consists in certain novel features and details of construction and arrangement, as hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the drawings and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is aperspective view of a shelf and the support therefor constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied., Fig. 2 is a side elevation ofthe shelf and its support. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the shelf, showing the upper V-shaped jaw. Fig. 4 is a detailed perspective view of one of the adjustable jaws, Fig. 5 is a vertical section through the upper end of the clamping rod or support.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a rod or support which may be of any preferred size or length, being provided at its upper end with a recess 2, above which extends a curved arm or band 3, formed integrally with the main body of the support or rod and of a size and curvature adapting it to partially embrace and surround a faucet 4, in close proximity to the barrel or vessel from which said faucet projects.

5 indicates a curved strap or arm corresponding in size and shape substantially to the arm or strap 3, and provided at its lower end with a perforated ear or lug 6 lying within the recess 2, thus adapting the arm or strap 5 to be pivotally connected with the main body of the support by means of a pin or rivet 7. The arms 3 and 5 are provided at their upper adjacent ends with perforated ears or extensions 8, adapted to receive a screwthreaded clamping-bolt 9. By means of this construction the support or rod l is adapted to be readily and easily clamped around the faucet or to be removed therefrom when desired. The support or rod 1 is given a bend, as indicated at 10, adjacent to the upper clamping portion, for the purpose of bringing the downwardly-extendin g vertical portion thereof into the desired position to receive an adjustable shelf.

The adjustable shelf (indicated at 11) is preferably made of hard wood, and is reduced in width at its rear end, where it is faced upon either side or top and bottom with perforated metallic plates l2, secured in place by means of rivets 13 passing through the material of the shelf and also through aligned perforations in said face-plates. A pair of oppositely and reversely disposed jaws 14 are carried by the shelf, one being located above and the other beneath the shelf and adjacent to the aperture or perforation 15, through which the s-upportin g-rod l is adapted to pass. Each of said jaws is provided with a V-shaped notch or mouth 16, the walls of said mouth being inclined, as shown, in order to provide a sharp or acute V-shaped edge for engaging the support or rod 1. The upper jaw is arranged so that said acute edge will be arranged uppermost and the lower jaw is arranged with its acute edge downward. Each jaw is furthermore provided with an elongated slot for the reception of a retainingbolt 17, passing through the shelf and receiving a nut and washer, by means of which the jaw is clamped upon the shelf. By the adjustment of said jaws the angle of the shelf IOO may be regulated in a manner that will be readily understood.

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that the shelf 1l may be adjusted to any desired height by lifting upon the outer end thereof and moving the shelf up or down, as desired. A jug or Vessel of any size may thus be placed beneath the nozzle of the faucet and in close proximity thereto, thus enabling the sirup or other material contained within the barrel or other receptacle to be directed with accuracy and precision into the mouth of the jug, thereby avoiding the annoyance and trouble caused by said sirup or other material wasting and dropping upon the sides of the jug, which is very sure to be the case where means are not provided for adjusting the height of the jug 0r receiving-vessel. The rod or support and the shelf being attached directly to and supported beneath the faucet insures the proper position of the receiving-vessel at all times.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted t0 without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed,and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-

l. The combination with a vertical rod or support, of a perforated shelf, oppositely and reversely disposed jaws arranged upon opposite sides of said shelf and adjacent to the perforations therein, and means for adjusting said jaws, for the purpose and substantially as described.

2. rIhe combination with a vertically-extending rod or support, of a perforated shelf, oppositely and reversely disposed jaws adjustably connected with said shelf and provided with V-shaped notches having inclined walls or edges, and means for adj Listing said jaws, substantially as specified.

3. An adjustable shelf for faucets, rbc., comprising avertically-extending rod or support, a perforated shelf provided with faceplates secured to the upper and lower sides thereof, oppositely and reversely disposed jaws for engaging said support, said jaws being provided with elongated slots for the reception of clamping-bolts, whereby said jaws are adapted to be adjusted7 substantially as and for the purpose specified.
