SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,708, dated January 28, 1896.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. FOREHAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tipton, in the county of Tipton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Locket or Brooch, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to that class of articles of jewelry in which there are a series of portraits or other pictures which maybe brought in succession into view.

The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of one form of myinvention, and Fig. 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.

111 the drawings, 3 and 4 indicate the two sections of a hollow case, said sections being of any desired shape and adapted to fit together. Mounted in the casing is a swinging plate 6 pivoted on a suitable pivot 7 secured in the casing. Said pivot 7 is preferably extended and bent downward to form a pin 8 for securing the device to the garments of the wearer. The casing may be provided with any other fastening device, if desired, or may be provided with a ring, so that it may be suspended as a locket.

Mounted on plate 6, substantially concentrio with pivot 7, are several portraits or other pictures 10, said pictures being so placed on plate 6 that they may be brought opposite opening 9 in the casing. Plate 6, made of any suitable material, is preferably free to swing on its pivot 7 and hangs normally in the position shown in the drawings, thus bringing one of the pictures 10 opposite opening 9. Upon tipping the casing to one side or the other either of the pictures may be brought into View opposite the opening 9.

The above-described device is designed primarily for a campaign-badge, and therefore I prefer to mount the portraits of the president, vice president, and the presidents wife upon plate 6; but the particular pictures used are immaterial.

I claim as my invention- 1. As an article of manufacture, a hollow casing provided with an opening in one of its sides, and a plate, pivoted in said casing so as to swing freely therein and provided with a series of pictures so arranged as to be brought opposite the opening in the casing by swinging the plate upon its pivot, together with means for securing said casing to the garments of the wearer, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. As an article of manufacture, a hollow casing provided with an opening in one of its sides, a plate pivoted in said casing and provided with a series of pictures so arranged as to be brought opposite the opening in the casing by swinging the plate upon its pivot, the said pivot extending beyond the casing and bent downward to form a pin 8, substantially as described.

3. As an article of manufacture, a hollow casing provided with an opening in one of its sides at one side of the center thereof, a plate pivoted so as to swing freely within said cas ing ata point other than the center of the opening and provided with a series of pietures arranged to be brought successively opposite said opening by the swinging of the plate upon its pivot, together with means for securing said casing to the garments of the wearer, substantially asset forth.
