Abstract

A pair of decorative earrings for being worn on a ladies ears, one of the earrings including an indicator to notify the wearer when her head is properly erect for a good posture, this earing including a horizontally extending chamber there-within that extends along a forward rearward direction, the chamber containing a small ball that is free to roll between opposite ends of the chamber and which when the head is properly erect for good posture rests at the rear end of the chamber; and when the posture becomes careless by inclining the head forwardly causes the small ball to roll toward a forward end of the chamber thus giving a sharp clicking sound so to warn the wearer to hold her head erect, the other earring not incorporating the indicator.

2 Claims, 5 Drawing Figures POSTURE EARRINGS This invention relates generally to posture developing equipment. More specifically the present invention relates to a pair of earrings.

It is generally well known that a person tends to become careless in maintaining an erect posture, and unless a person is notified or otherwise warned of a bad posture the same will deterioate a persons appearance. This situation is of course objectionable and therefore in want of improvement.

Accordingly it is the principal object of the present invention to provide a pair of earrings for being worn on a lady and wherein one of them has a self-contained means so to warn the lady when her posture becomes slumped.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an earring which beside serving a useful purpose for maintaining good posture, at the same time is decorative so to hide to other observers the utilitarian purposes thereof.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a pair of posture earrings which maybe worn whenever and whereever a person wishes such as at home or away, and eventually will let the person to attain her own natural correct posture with that new feeling of statelyness and poise.

Still another purpose of the present invention is to provide a pair of posture earrings which are much simplier and easier to use for maintaining and attaining good posture than the old bothersome method of carrying a heavy book upon the persons head.

Other objects of the present invention are to provide posture earrings which are simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.

These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and accompanying drawing wherein:

FIG. 4 is a front elevation view of a modified design of the invention which incorporates a closed tube container at the rear of the earring for retaining the rollable ball, and

FIG. 5 is a cross sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of FIG. 4.

According to the present invention, a pair of earrings of similar appearance form a set for being worn; one of the earrings being of decorative appearance only, while the other earring additionally includes a level indicator, and which is described in detail here below.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly at this time to FIGS. l to 3 thereof, the reference numeral represents one of a pair of earrings according to the present invention wherein there is a main body member 11 which may be of any shape to form a pleasing design, and which upon its front side 12 maybe provided with any form of decoration 13 for a pleasing appearance.

Upon the rear side of the main body member 11 there is permanently affixed by cement or other securement means a rear plate 13 to a rear side of which there is permanently affixed an earring clip M of conventional design and which includes a downwardly U- shaped bracket 15 for passing under the bottom of an ear lobe 16, the bracket threadingly supporting a threaded adjustment post 17 having a pad 18 for baring against a rear side of the ear lobe 16.

In the present invention, the main body member 11 .includes a horizontal extending chamber 19 within which there is contained a freely rollable ball 20 that is able to roll between opposite ends of the chamber 19. After the ball is fitted within the chamber that opens out on a rear side of the main body member, the rear plate 13 is secured to the main body member thus permanently enclosing the ball within the chamber.

In operative use, when the lady holds her head properly erect, the ball 20 will be seated within the rear end of the chamber 19, as shown in FIG. 1 of the drawing. If the posture of the head becomes slump, and forwardly inclined, the ball will roll forwardly and strike the forward end of the chamber wall thus giving a sharp click that is heard by the wearer of the earring and warn her to properly erect her head for maintaining a good posture.

In FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawing, there is shown a slightly modified design of the posture earrings wherein instead of the main body member having a chamber formed there within for the ball, there is provided a separate sealed tube 21 within which the ball 22 is freely rotatable, the tube being mounted in a horizontal position at the rear of an earring decorative front member 23 secured there to by means of a bracket 24. The bracket 24 has the conventional ear clip 14 secured thereto as shown. Thus a modified construction is provided which incorporates the same principals of the present invention.

It of course is obvious that various other modified constructions maybe utilized such as the chamber 19 communicating with a vertically upwardly extending opening for receiving the ball 20 when being fitted into the chamber 119, the vertically upwardly extending opening then being removed. All such modifications still incorporate the same principals of the present invention, and the present invention is of course designed to include all such modifications.

What I claim is:

1. In a pair of posture earrings, a pair of earrings for being worn upon a persons ears, each one of said earrings having means for being decorative and at the same time having means for warning a wearer when the wearers head becomes slumped, thereby assisting the wearer to develop a good posture, each of said earrings including a main body member which upon its front side may be variously ornamented or decorated for an attractive appearance, said main body member being of any desired shape, said main body member being supported on said wearers ear by means of a conventional clip, and said means for warning said wearer comprising a horizontal extending chamber, said horizontally extending chamber containing a freely rotatable and rollable ball which is adaptable to move between opposite longitudinal ends of said chamber.

The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said ball rest against a rear end of said chamber when said wearers head is properly erect for good posture, and wherein said ball rolls with a striking warning sound to said wearer when said wearers head becomes forwardly slumped thus causing said ball to strike a forward end wall of said chamber.

Claims (2)

1. In a pair of posture earrings, a pair of earrings for being worn upon a person''s ears, each one of said earrings having means for being decorative and at the same time having means for warning a wearer when the wearer''s head becomes slumped, thereby assisting the wearer to develop a good posture, each of said earrings including a main body member which upon its front side may be variously ornamented or decorated for an attractive appearance, said main body member being of any desired shape, said main body member being supported on said wearer''s ear by means of a conventional clip, and said means for warning said wearer comprising a horizontal extending chamber, said horizontally extending chamber containing a freely rotatable and rollable ball which is adaptable to move between opposite longitudinal ends of said chamber.

2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein said ball rest against a rear end of said chamber when said wearers head is properly erect for good posture, and wherein said ball rolls with a striking warning sound to said wearer when said wearers head becomes forwardly slumped thus causing said ball to strike a forward end wall of said chamber.
