Be it known that I, THOMAS J. BrLLiNcs LEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Logansport, in the parish of De Soto and State of Louisiana, have invented a new and useful Scouringlop, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a scouring-mop, and the objects in view are to provide a simple and efficient construction of frame detachable from the mop-head and adapted, when in use, to-support a pail containing water and provided with means for allowing the slow dis charge of the water in the path of the mop.

Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mop constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is avertical section of the same.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the drawings.

l designates an upright frame having side uprights 2 connected at their upper ends by a cross-bar 3 and near their lower ends by a brace ai, said uprights being provided in their lower ends with sockets 5 in which are tted the Shanks of casters or supporting-rolls 6. The uprights are provided at their inner sides and adjacent to their upper ends with keepers 7 in which are fitted the extremities of the side bars 8 of a handle 9, said side bars terminating in handholds 10. These side bars of the handle are connected at intervals by cross-bars 11 and are connected, respectively, with the back 12 of a mop-head 13 by means of metal straps 1i. These straps are bolted at their upper and lower ends, respectively, to the side bars of the handle in the path of the mop-head. Brace-rods 15 are loosely connected at their upper ends by means of interlocking eyes 16 and 17, the latter forming parts of screw-eyes, and the uprights of the frame are provided at their lower ends with hooks 1S for engagement with eyes 19 on the mop-head near its rear edge, and swiveled or loosely connected to the mop-head are hooks 2U for engagement with staples or eyes 21 on the side edges of the uprights. By these means the mop-head is connected detachably to the frame, whereby the parts may be disconnected to provide for repairing the mophead by the rearrangement or replacement of the bristles or shucks forming the scour ing-face of the mop-head.

Swiveled in the cross-bar 3 upon opposite sides of its center are supporting-hooks 22 from which may be suspended a pail, as shown in the drawings, provided with a perforated bottom to allow the contents to fall in advance of the mop, the weight of this pail adding to the weight 'of the frame in securing a proper pressure of the mop bristles or shucks upon the surface to be cleansed, while the facility of moving the mop over such surface is assured by the casters or supporting rolls at the bottom of the frame. More or less pressure may be exerted upon the mop by lowering or raising the rear ends of the handle-bars, for which purpose said handlebars are extended rearwardly and upwardly from the upright frame over and beyond the mop and are connected by vertical braces with the rear edge of the mop-head. This construction provides for the application to the handle-bars of the weight of the operator as the mop is pushed across the floor.

From the above description it will be seen that the device is simple in construction, may be repaired with facility by the consumer, may be operated without difficulty to secure more or less pressure upon the surface to be scoured, and is of sufficient weight to insure proper pressure without unnecessary exertion upon the part of the ope1'ator,'and that various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim is-- The combination of a frame having side uprights, transversely opposite casters or sup porting rolls arranged at thel lower ends of said uprights, a mop-head detachably secured to the frame in rear of the casters or supporting rolls with its front edge in contact with said uprights, means for supporting a waterdistributing device in front of the mop-head IOO operating as a'fulcrnm' and being held in contact with the surface traversed by the water-distributing device, substantially as specified.
