Description

UNITED STATES PATENT EETCE.
VARDEN R. lIUMPI-IREY, OF VILMINGTON, DELAWARE. Y
SHOWER OR NEEDLE BATH.
.SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,839, dated January 7, 1896.
Application filed September ll, 1895. Serial No. 562,116. (No model.)
To LZZ whom it may con/cern:
Be it known that LXVARDEN R. HUMPHREY, of Vilmington, in the county of New Castle and State of Delaware, have invented a new and Improved Shower or Needle Bath, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved shower or needle bath which is simple and durable in construction, very cdective in operation, and arranged for convenient attachment to an ordinary bathtub and adapted to be folded up for storage when not in use.
The invention consists principally of a casing open at the top and bottom and a perforated pipe fit-ting into the said casing along the sides thereof and adapted to be connected with the water-supply.
The invention also consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specilication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a plan view of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same, and F ig. 3 is a plan view of the casing as folded up.
The improved shower or needle bath is provided with a casing or box A, open at the top and bottom and connected at its sides A' and A2 with the ends A3 and A4 by hinges B, and the said ends A3 and A4 are made in two parts connected with each other by hinges B', so as to permit of folding the box or casing into the position shown in Fig. S-that is, by folding the ends A3 and A" inward between the sides A' and A2. The latter are provided near their upper ends and near the middle thereof with lugs C C', adapted to receive 'and support a perforated pipe D, made to conform to the sha-pe of the box and fitting on the sides and ends thereof with the perforations inside, so that water passing through the perforations issues in jets into the box.
The pipe D is provided at one end with an inlet D', connected by a hose or other means E with one or both faucets F of the bath-tub sides A and A2 of the box to support the lat ter at the top, it being understood that the box is either made the width of the bath-tub or narrower and the lugs I-I increased in size to support the box properly.
Now, when the several parts are in the position as shown in Fig. l then the person desiring to take a shower-bath enters the box A, and the water issuing in jets through the perforations passes onto the whole or that part of the persons body extending into the box A, and the bather, by raising and lowering himself in the box, can readily expose any part of his body to the jets of water.
It will be seen that by the arrangement dcscribed the jets of water surround the entire part of the body within the box or casing A, so that a complete washing of the body is assured.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A device of the class described, comprising a cas'in g open at the top and bottom, and a perforated pipe iitting into the said casing along the sides thereof, and adapted to be connected with the water supply, substantially as shown and described.
2. A shower or needle bath, comprising a casing open at the top and bottom and having hinged sides and ends, and a perforated pipe adapted to iit into the said box along the sides and ends thereof, and adapted to be connected with the water supply, substantially as shown and described.
3. A shower or needle bath, comprising a folding box or casin g provided with lugs, and a perforated pipe adapted to fit into the said casing when extended, and to be supported by the said lugs, substantially as shown and described.
