To all whom it may concern Be it known that I. HENRY E. TI-HBADOR c, a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful improvements in ShowenBath Chairs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to chairs adapted to be applied to bath tubs and used by a person when taking a shower bath and it consists in the novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

An object of the invention is to provide a chair of the character stated which is or simple and durable structure having means whereby it may be connected with the sides of a bathtub and means for supporting the shower or spray fixture, whereby the spray may fall or deposit upon the occupant of the chair.

Another object of the invention is to pro vide a chair of the character stated which is of such shape and configuration that all portions of the body of the occupant are accessible for washing when the device is in use.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a chair of the character stated which is ioldable and thereby occupying but little space during storage or while in shipment.

In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a tub with the shower bath chair applied.

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.

Figure 3 is an enlarged detail view partlr in section, showing the connection of the vertical rods with the seat sections.

Figure r is a detail side elevation of the upper portion of the device partly in section.

The shower bath chair comprises sections 1 which are hingedly connected together as at 2. The sections 1 are ogee shape in plan, and consequently when the said sections are spread out with relation to each other the seat is in the general form of a horseshoe. The sections 1 are provided at their sides with arm portions 3 which are adapted to engage over the side edges of a bathtub 4.- when the seat is applied. Brackets 5 are carried at the rear portions of the sections 1 and are provided at their rear ends with upstanding socket members 9. The lower ends of rods 10 are received in the socket members 9, and a head piece 11 rests upon the upper ends of the rods 10 and is provided with socket portions 12 which receive the upper ends of the rods 10. A brace piece 13 is mounted upon the intermediate portions of the rods 10 and bridges the space between them. The said brace piece may also serve as the back of the chair structure. versely through the intermediate portion of the head 11 and is secured at an adjusted position therein by means of a set screw 15 which passes transversely through the side of the head and engages at its inner end the side of the pipe 14:. The lower end of the pipe 14 may be connected by a hose section 16 with the spigot or faucet of the bathtub. A pipe 17 is pivoted upon the upper end of the pipe 1e and carries at its end a horseshoe shaped sprinkler 18.

lVhen the device is applied to a bathtub and the bather is occupying the chair of which the sections 1 form the bottom or seat, the water may be admitted through the hose 16,

14 and 17 to the sprinkler 18 and from the said sprinkler the water will fall upon the head shoulders and body of the bather. Inasmuch as the sprinkler 18 is horseshoe shaped and the ends of the said sprinkler are spaced. from each other the water will not flow upon the face of the bather when the bather i occupying the chair and by reason of the peculiar configuration of the sections 1, which constitute the seat of the chain, all portions of the body of the bather are accessible for bathing purposes. When the device is not in use and detached from the bathtub the rods 10 may be disconnected from the socketmembers 9 and the sections 1 of the chair bottom may be folded upon the hinge 2, and consequently the parts may be packed in small space for shipment or storage.

Having described the inventlon, what is clalmed 1s:

1. A shower bath chair comprising a seat.

A pipe 14 passes transin foldable sections for support on the Walls of a tub, a back structure, means on said seat to detachably engage said back strucl5 ture, and a sprayer on said back structure extending forwardly therefrom and disposed over said seat.
