' E. L. KREBS.
SUSPENDER DEVICE.
Patented Dec. 31, 1895.
NITED STATES P TENT FFICE.
EMIL L. KREBS, OF DEXTER, TEXAS.
SUSPENDER DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,378, dated December 31, 1895.
Application filed July 24, 1895. Serial No. 556,978. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL L. KREBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dexter, in the county of Cooke, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender Devices and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in suspenders.
The invention will first be described in connection with the accompanying drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair'of suspenders embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the back fastening device. Fig. 3 is a similar view of one of the front fastening devices.
Referring to the drawings, A is a back fastening device formed from one piece of wire and comprising a central rectangular loop a, a coil a forming a spring, a pin portion a and a keeper or guard c arranged to hold the end of the pin a these parts being all integral with each other, as shown.
The front fastening device B also consists of a central rectangular loop I), coil 1), pin b and keeper b formed of one integral piece of wire. In addition to these parts a slide b having a linked portion b, which surrounds and is adapted to slide vertically on the rectangular loop I) of each device, this slide being bent from a piece of wire and having its two ends Z2 bent at right angles to the slide and projecting upward between the loop I) and the linked portion of the slide 1) after the slide is put on said loop, whereby the slide is prevented from coming off the loop I), at the same time the ends or prongs b perforating the webbing arranged to be inserted between the loop and the linked portion of the slide.
The front fastening devices are secured to the pantaloons by inserting the pin portion through the waistband in the manner shown,
after which the ends of the pins are brought into engagement with the keepers I). The
back fastening device is similarly secured to the back of the waistband.
The webbing C consists of one strip or piece which is doubled and has its central portion engaged by the loop a of the back fastening device, the webbing being stitched, as at c, to keep the loop a in its proper position. The ends of the webbing are brought forward and inserted in the loops 1) of the front fastening devices, the tongues or points 12 of the slide device being then forced through the webbing, to prevent its withdrawal, by forcing the slides b upward on the loops b, as will be plain from the drawings.
WVhen desired the pin portions a b may be inserted through the underwear as well as through the pantaloons, thus holding said underwear from working downward.
It will be seen that by my construction a remarkably simple and therefore cheap suspender is produced, while at the same time the use of buttons on pantaloons is avoided. Furthermore, the front and back fastening devices may be made and sold without the webbing, to be used as a ready makeshift when the usual pantalo'on-buttons pull off, the fastening device being attached to the webbing of the ordinary Suspender and pinned to the pantaloons as described.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A fastening device having a central loop, a coil, a keeper and a pin extending from the coil and engaging the keeper all formed from one piece of wire, in combination, with a slide having a linked portion surrounding and vertically movable on the central loop, and having a pair of ends or prongs projecting upward between the loop and the linked-portion of the slide to form tongues, substantially as described.
2. As an article of manufacture, a suspender for pantaloons havinga rear fastening device formed from one piece of wire comprising a central loop, a coil, a pin and a keeper, a webbing inserted through the loop and folded in its central portion, a pair of front fastening" devices for attachment to the ends ing devices arranged to be inserted in the panof said Webbing, said devices having loops, taloons. IO pins, coils and keepers, the loops of said de- In testimony whereof I affix my signature vices being provided With a vertically movin presence of two Witnesses.
