F. W. SAMUELS. TROUSERS. No. 552,333.
Patented Dec. 31, 1895.
Fwigl I I I I I 6 I 1 I witnaooeo UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK \V. SAMUELS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
TROUSERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 552,333, dated December 31, 1895.
Application filed April 12, 1895.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. SAMUELs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in trousers for men having ill-formed legs.
The object of my improvement is to prevent the inner sides of the trousers-legs from conforming to the outline of the wearers legs; and I accomplish this object by means of a stay formed of a strip of cloth or other flexible material, secured to the trousers at the seat-seam and along the front fly portion, and hanging freely along the inner leg-seam, on the inside, said strip being provided at its lower end with fastening devices for connecting it with the foot of thewearer, all as hereinafter fully set forth.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of a pair of trousers having my improvement. Fig. 2 represents a sectional elevation of one leg of the trousers. Fig. 3 represents, on a larger scale, a plan of the stay.
In the drawings, 2 indicates the stay, out from cloth or other flexible material, and extending nearly the entire length of the trousers. The upper end of said stay is out to conform to the seat-seam of the trousers, and extends up the body portion along the front side, near the fiy-opening. This upper portion of the stay is securely fastened to the body of the trousers on the edge next to the fly and along the seat-seam. The lower portion is cut narrower, preferably about three or four inches wide, and hangs free inside the trousers-leg along and opposite the inner seam. The lower end of the-stay is provided with a pair of elastic extensions 3 3 Serial No. 645,541. (No model.)
which are preferably adjustable as to length,
'and are provided at their lower ends with hooks 4 4, by means of which they may be detachablysecured to the shoe-top by means of eyes 5 5 or other suitable fastenings secured thereto.
It will be understood that the lower end of the stay may, instead of being attached to the shoe, be attached to the stocking, or connected in any other suitable manner to the foot or ankle of the wearer, the object being to draw the stay taut in a straight line along the inner seam 6 of the trousers-leg when the wearer is standing.
The operation of my device is obvious. When the wearer is upon' his feet, the stay, being attached securely to the trousers at the upper end and connected at its lower end with the foot of the wearer, is drawn straight, with, however, a yielding force, so that the movement of the foot is not interfered with, and the inner sides of the trousers-legs are kept straight irrespective of the contour of the leg of the wearer.
I claim as my invention- 1. The herein described trousers, having a strip of fabric secured thereto on the inside at the seat seam, and hanging freely along the inner leg seam, said strip being provided at its lower end with fastening devices, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The herein described trousers, having a strip of fabric secured thereto on the inside at the seat seam and along the front fly portion, and hanging freely along the inner legseam, said strip being provided at its lower end with fastening devices, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
FRANK W. SAMUELS.
