Be it known that I, OTTO PRIEGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lineville, in the county of Wayne and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Twine-Holder, of which the following is a speciiication.

My invention relates to twine reels or holders, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive, and eilicient device adapted to take up the loose end of twine after a piece desired for immediate use has been detached,

in order to prevent the loose end from hanging in the way of the salesman.

Further objects and advantages of this invention will appear in the following description,and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed outI in the appended claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a reel constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, enlarged. Fig. 3 is a detail view, in perspective, of the drum and core. Fig. 4. is a similar view showing the spool mounted upon the core.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures of the drawings.

The improved reel consists of a core 7 upon one end of which is arranged a drum bounded at opposite sides by the flanges 8 and 9, and in the construction illustrated said drum is formed integral with the core. The core and drum are suspended in operative position by means of a swinging hanger 3, having parallel side arms terminating at their lower ends in bearing-eyes 5, a transversely-disposed central portion, and loops 4L connecting the central portion with the arms. The upper ends of the loops are engaged with eyes 2, adapted to be secured to a ceiling 1 or similarsupport. The core and drum are provided with terminal trunnions G, mounted in the bearing-eyes and adapted to be inserted by swinging the arms of the hanger outwardly.

Fitted upon the core is a removable spool 12, upon which is wound the cord or twine, said spool being held in place upon the core by means of the spring action of the arms of the hanger. The outer end of the spool is iiush with the outer extremity of the core, whereby the arm of the hanger bears against the former and prevents displacement. In order to communicate rotary motion from the spool to the core when twine is being unreeled, the spool is provided with a web 14 to engage a notch or groove 13 in the core.

Secured to the drum, between the i'langes 8 and 9 thereof and equal in width to the inter val between said flanges, is a strap or web l0, terminating at its lower end in a weight, and in operation the strap or web is wound on the drum bythe unreeling of the twine, and when the desired portion or section of the twine has been severed and the loose end is released the weighted strap or web causes rotation of the spool in the opposite direction or in the direction of winding the twine, whereby the loose end is wound upon the spool and thereby elevated out of the way.

Frein the above description it will be seen that the device is simple and may be manufactured at a small cost. The hanger is constructed of a single blank of wire, and the spring action of its arms holds the bearingeyes in engagement with the trunnions and at the same time holds the spool in place on the core. The object ,in depressing the central portion of the hanger betweenthe bearingloops 4 is to strengthen said loops and prevent the upward bowing of the intermediate portion of the hanger due to the downward strain upon the hanger in unreeling the twine.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
