Be it known that I, DAVID F. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Wichita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flue-Thimbles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in WhlOll- Figure 1 is a perspective View of the fluethimble; Fig. 2, a sectional elevation thereof, represented as set in a flue, also showing a pipe placed therein; Fig. 3, a perspective View of the thimble-stopper, and Fig. 4 a front Eiew representing the stopper placed in the The invention relates to flue-thimbles; and it consists in the particular means which I employ to hold the stovepipe in place.

B represents the thimble, which has fitted thereon a collar 0, a little distance back from its forward end, thereby leaving a flange portion, as shown at R, extending beyond said collar. The rear end of said thimble is made with a series of longitudinal slits, as represented at V.

The extending flange R is made with a segfingers of a person, so the said foot-piece may be lifted from the slot by yielding back the spring S.

In service the thimble is placed in a flue, placing the slitted end foremost, bringing the collar to register with the wall about the flue (see Fig. 2) and bringing the slitted end through the flue, when the end sections made by said slitting are bent radially against the wall adjacent the inner end of the flue, and by so doing the thimble is secured in the flue, subject, however, to removal therefrom by straightening said end sections.

When the thimble is thus placed either a stopper (shown at D) having a flange D and knob Z may be placed with the flange D into the thimble to close it, which is done by first lifting the spring-foot S, or a pipe, such as a stovepipe, may be placed in like manner, as represented at P in Fig. 2, and in either instance when the spring-foot S is released it comes in contact with and yieldingly but firmly bears against the stopper-flange D or pipe P, thereby holding them firmly sealed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

vA flue thimble having the outer slot F in combination with a plate spring provided with the clamping foot S and held by its tension within said slot, to grip a stopper or pipe passing thereinto as and for the purpose set forth.
