Be itknown that I, HORATIO FRANCIS SMYTH, lieutenant-colonel, Royal Artillery, retired, a subject of the Queen'of Great Britain and Ireland, residingat the Junior Army and Navy Club, St. James Street, London, England,have invented certain Improvements in Apparatus for Shaping and Creasing Trousers, of which the following is a specification.

lhe object of my invention is to provide apparatus for shaping and creasing trousers,

the said apparatus being simple in construction, very readily put into position in thegarment and removed therefrom, and suitable for stretching garments of different widths without requiring adjustment, and my apparatus is so constructed that it can, when not in use, be folded compactly together so as to occupy a very small space.

I will describe myinvention with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 shows in elevation the apparatus in its opened position. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the apparatus when closed, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of Fig. 2 drawn to a larger scale.

The apparatus consists of a longitudinal stationary member A and two parallel longitudinal movable members B B, which are formed with channels or grooves, as seen in Fig. 3, and which are connected to the stationary member A by means of pairs of links c and d, pivoted at their outer ends at 0' and d to the movable members B B and at their inner ends to collars G and D, respectively, fixed on the said stationary member A. A collar E is provided which slides on the aforesaid member A, and is connected by hinged arms e to the movable members B B. The said collar is held in a position on the rod A preferably by a cam-lever F centered at f on the said collar, the cam part f of which is caused to bear on the stationary member, so as to retain the collar in any desired position thereon. The stationary member A is provided with a suitable handle A for grasping it, preferably in the formof a hook, so that it may be readily hung up with the trousers thereon.

hen in use, the apparatus is inserted through the lower end of the trousers to be creased and the movable members are then forced away from the stationary member by pressing against the collar E after the manner in which an umbrella is opened. When the movable side members are found to be sufficiently distended in the leg of the trousers, they are retained in that position by turning the camleverF on ts pivotfiso that the cam-surfacef bears tightly against the rod A.

When the apparatus is to be removed from the garment, the cam-lever F is brought up into the position shown in Fig. 2 and the collar E drawn back along the stationary member or rod A, when the connecting-arms cause the movable members to approach each other and lie alongside the stationary member so that the stationary member and arms lie in the channels of the movable members, as shown in Fig. 2 of the accompanying drawings. In this closed position the apparatus can be readily removed from the garment, and it will be found to occupy but little space, so that it can be readily packed in a small trunk or the like.

It will be seen that apparatus constructed according to my invention will not require any adjustment of the arms to suit various size trousers, as this is obtained by merely altering the position of the sliding collar E on the stationary member A.

What I claim is- 1. In apparatus for creasing or shaping trousers the combination with movable channeled or grooved side members of a central stationary member connected by arms to the side members a collar sliding on the stationary member also connected by arms to the side members, and a clamping device attached to the said sliding collar the said stationary member and the connecting arms being adapted to fold up and lie in the channels of the said movable members when the apparatus is in a closed position substantially as and for the purposes hereinbefore described.

2. Apparatus for creasing or shaping trousers comprising movable channeled members B B connected by arms 0 0 cl d to collars 0 D fixed on a stationary member A, and a sliding collar E connected by arms 2 e to the channeled members B B and provided with a cam lever F the Whole being arranged to fold up so as to lie when in a closed position in the channels of the said movable members substantially as specified.
