Description

P 1953 F. GREB-LASKY CLIP-0N SUIT PRESSER Filed Nov. 9, 1950 INVENTOR.
-F"/?ANK GHEB-LAJKY AT TORNE Y Patented Apr. 21, 1953 UNITED STATES ATENT OFFICE This invention relates to a clip-on suit press- It is an object of the present invention to provide a clip-on suit presser for removing wrinkless from garments by attaching the same to that part of the garment where the wrinkles appear when the garment is hung from a hanger and allowing the presser to stay upon the garment for a suitable period of time until the wrinkles have disappeared.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a clip-on presser which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to assemble, easy to attach to the garment, has a minimum number of parts, compact, consumes little space and easy to store, durable and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a side elevational view of a pair of trousers suspended from a hanger with the clipon pressers of the present invention connected to the lower end of the trousers as they are suspended from the cuff.
Fig. 1a is an elevational view of a coat suspended from a hanger with the clip-on presser of the present invention connected to one of the arms of the coat whereby to press the sleeve.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the presser with the handles moved to a position to be actuated to open the presser jaws.
Fig. 3 is a collective and perspective view of the presser with the parts thereof extended from one another.
Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of the presser illustrating the manner in which the jaws are opened to receive the garment.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of an adapter which may be placed within the presser in order to give a longer grip upon the garment.
Fig. 7 is a side elevational view of the presser used with the adapter upon one of the cuffs 01 a pair of trousers.
Referring now to the figures, 10 represents the clip-on presser embodying the features of the present invention. This presser is used as shown particularly in Fig. 1, Fig. 1a and Fig. 7. In Figs. 1 and 1a the presser is attached to the depending portions of the garment as it is suspended from a hanger. In Fig. 1 the pressers are connected 1 Claim. (CI. 3870) to the waist portion of the trousers as the trousers are suspended from a hanger H attached to the cuffs of the trousers. In Fig. 1a, the presser is attached to a sleeve 12 of a coat which is suspended from a hanger l3. In Fig. '7 an adapter sleeve 14 is used with the presser and this sleeve is attached to a cult [5 of the trousers. This adapter serves to distribute the weight throughout the width of the trouser cuff and to provide a more even pull thereon.
The presser 10 includes a through member [6 sent into channel shape with flanges lying inwardly and adjacent one another. On the ends of the member 15 are enlargements I! which have respectively through openings l8 for receiving pins 19. The intermediate portion of the member 15 is enlarged, as indicated at 20, to project outwardly of the external side faces of the member.
Between the enlargements H on the ends of the member I6 and over the intermediate portion is a space 2! into which is fitted rolled over portion 22 of a handle 23 and a sleeve 24 lying within the rolled over portion 22. The pins I9 extend through the enlargements I! and the sleeve 24 to pivotally secure the handle 23 between the enlargements H. The pins l9 pass through the holes l8 of the enlargements II. There are two handles 23, one on each side of the intermediate portion 20.
The intermediate portion 20 of the member provides shoulders 25 and 25 against which clips 21 can abut in order to provide additional weight to the member 16.
A weight member 28 of elongated shape is extended along the bottom of the member I6 and is made secure thereto by a rivet 29. With the handles 23 pivoted downwardly and by using pressure upon the lower ends of the same in the manner illustrated in Fig. 5, the jaws of the device can be spread so that the device can be fitted upon the garment. When the device is not in use and it is to be stored or suspended upon a hook on a wall, the handles 23 can be hinged upwardly and the hook projection extended through openings 23' therein.
By the use of the adapter M the weight is distributed to a greater extent along the garment and at the same time added weight is given to the device. It will be apparent that there has been provided two weight members 2'! and 2B and an adapter M which may also give added weight.
The members 21 while serving as weights are also of spring material to give the desired spring action which is required to bring the sides of the member I6 together and the enlargement [1 upon the garment. The spring action of the members 21 will provide adequate clamping action of the enlarged portions l1 and of the turned upon portion 22 of the handle with the garment.
The member 16 can be, as indicated, of plastic material that can be easily bent so that the side portions are expanded and the spring clip 21 will serve to return the side portions of the member 16 to effect the engagement of the enlargements IT with the garment.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A clip-on garment presser comprising a molded channel member having flexible side portions converged toward one another, garment engaging enlargements on the opposite ends of the side portions of the channel member, said channel member having an intermediate transverse enlargement providing shoulders at the opposite sides thereof adjacent said side portions, channel-shaped spring clips extendable over the channels member and abutting the shoulders of the intermediate portions to urge the side portions into converging relationship, handle elements respectively having rolled over portions, sleeves in the respective rolled over portions of the handle elements, said garment-engaging enlargements having openings extending longitudinally therethrough, pins extending through the enlargement openings and the sleeves pivotally to secure the handle elements to the side portions of the channel member, said handle elements when hinged downwardly adapted to extend below the channel member to be grasped in order that a separation of the side portions of the channel member can be effected and an elongated weight extending the full length of the bottom of the channel member and secured thereto, and an adapter of elongated channel shape having converging side walls and reverted top edges, said adapter lying in said channel member with its reverted top edges overlying said rolled over portion, said adapter extending beyond the ends of said garment presser to provide an elongated garment-engaging surface.
