GLOVE-HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 548,362, dated October 22, 1895.

Be it known that 1, JOHN C. GROUT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Glove-Holder, of which the following is a specification. a

My invention relates to an adjustable band or ring provided with an upright arm, which may be attached to a cane or an umbrellahandle, whereby a glove or pair of gloves may be secured on said cane or umbrella-handle by placing the said gloves between the upright arm and the said cane or umbrella-handle for purposes of convenience, such as when temporarily laid aside will render separate search for the respective articles unnecessary. I attain this object by the device as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 by way of preference shows the holder attached to a cane. Fig. 2 represents the holder detached. Fig. 3 shows side elevation of a permanently-secured loop a, Fig. 12, with a pin on the interior surface of said oop.

In Fig. 1 I represent the adjustable band or ring with the upright arm 13 hinged to the band or ring.

In Fig. 2 I represent the upright arm as rigidly attached to said band or ring, but of flexible material to permit of some spring.

The ring or band A in Fig. 2 by way of preference I represent as provided at one end with diamond-shaped holes, and which when slipped through the permanently-secured loop a, may be engaged upon the pin on the interior surface of the said loop, while the extreme end may be passed through a second,

but movable, loop 1). While this is an excellent method of securing permanent adjustment of the band or ring, I do not wish to be understood as limited to but this one method, but for purposes of variety of design may prefer to use a buckle-clasp,set-screw, or similar common and simple means to attain the same facility of adjustment.

Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. The combination with a portable support, such as a cane, or other elongated stick, by which a glove holder may be carried, of a glove holder consisting essentially of a flexihis band lengthwise extensible to adapt it to various diameters of a support, an arm or prong extending from said band and lying in such proximity to its support which the band encircles as to adapt the arm or prong to clamp a glove between it and said support, and means for securing the band in its extension or contraction to various positions of its adj ustment on its support, substantially as and for the purposes described.

2. In a glove holder, the combination with a flexible band adapted to be extended as well as contracted around a support and provided with a clamping arm or prong to bind a glove between the prong and a support around which the band will fit, a loop for a portion of the band to pass through, and means attached to the band to hold it in its lengthwise extension or contraction and secure the same in its adjustment, substantially as and for the purposes described.
