To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that-I, Josnrn: A. WHITE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Augusta, in the county ofLewis and Clarke and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

The object of this invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive 'music-leaf turner, which can be readily applied topianos, organs, and similar instruments for holding sheet-music and turning'the leaves thereof successively or collectively.

The invention consists in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a perspective view of a music-leaf turner constructed in accordance with my invention, showing but a single leaf holder and turner upon the supporting-rod; and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device, showing a number of leaf holders and turners upon the rod.

A designates the support or ledge with which pianos and organs are usually provided, and to this ledge my improved music-leaf holder and turner is adapted to be applied.

B designates a box or suitable fixture, the upper and lower portions extending beyond the sides at the rear, so as to lie above and below the ledge A and position the box immediately in front of the same. The upper part of the box may be provided with suitable clamping-screws for holding the same securely in place. Through the front portion of the box or fixture B passes a rod 0, which is supported in a vertical position with respect to said box, and immediately in rear of this rod is located a spring-bar D. Passing into or through the front portion of the box or fixture B are wires E, which extend from the sides of the box and are bent upwardly,

then outwardly, where they are bent upon themselves and have connecting portions, a similar arrangement of bends being in the upper part, where they are formed into eyes or loops 0, which encircle the rod (3 near its upper end. It will be observed that the wires E extend on both sides of the rod 0.

So much of the device as has been described is adapted to hold in place a single sheet of music, the same being placed between the rod 0 and spring-bar D and the edges of the leaves placed between the bent portions of the wires E. The wires E may be made of a single piece or two pieces, each having eyes at their upper ends, while their lower ends enter the box or fixture and are suitably retained therein.

F designates the leaf holders and turners, which are each made up of two sections or wire loops connected to each other at their upper and lower ends, where they are formed into eyes which encircle the rod 0, the several leaf holders and turners being separated by washers or collars, as shown in Fig. 2. By reference to Fig. 1, it will be noted that the leaf holders and turners are each made up of a single lenghth of wire, starting at an intermediate portion of the lower member of one loop, passing back to form the lower eye, then bent to form the other loop, twisted to form the upper eye, and finally bent to form the major portion of the first-mentioned loop, the ends being twisted upon themselves to form a handle or lever f, which is bent, as shown, to engage the lower part of the rod 0, from which it extends to provide a grasping portion, the handles being of different lengths and are connected to their loops in such manner as to position the grasping portions side by side on a horizontal line. In use the music-leaves may be placed between the sections of the leaf holder and turner, and when it is desired to turn a leaf the'holder in which it is placed can be moved to the other side of the rod or supportC by turning its operating handle or lever.

In order to more. securely hold the leaf in connection with its holder, I solder or otherwise attach to the handle f, adjacent to its loop, a spring clamp or clasp G, so that the jaws thereof will be positioned between the with leaves, said arms having handles for operating the same, and I do not therefore claim such invention broadly; but

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A leaf holder and turner, comprising a suitable box or fixture serving as a support for a central red C, leaf holders or cover supports E connected to the rod and to the box or fixture, each support consisting of a loop bent back upon itself at its outer end as shown, and a leaf holder and turner pivoted at its upper and lower ends upon the rod and made up of a double loop, an operating handle formed on one of the loops, and an interposed spring clamp the jaws of which lie between the loops, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a leaf holder and turner, the combination, of a suitable box or fixture B supporting a rod 0, leaf holders or cover sup ports E connected to the rod and to the box or fixture; together with leaf holders and turners F pivoted at their upper and lower ends upon the rod, each leaf holder and turner consisting of a single length of wire bent to form eyes which encircle the rod and two loops which normally lie together, the ends of the wire being twisted one upon the other to form an operating lever or handle, and spring clamps secured to the levers or handles so that the jaws thereof will extend between the loops, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.

3. A leaf holder and turner comprising a suitable support or fixture which carries a rod 0 and rear of said rod aspring bar, as D, Wires E rigidly attached to the fixture and to the upper ends of the red C said wires hav ing portions bent upon themselves as shown, one or more leaf holders made up of wire in the form of a loop which is connected at its ends to the rod 0, the wire being twisted at an intermediate point so as to form a handle which is also connected to the red O.
