SCRUBBING-STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,993, dated October 1, 1895.
Application filed June 10, 1895. Serial No. 562,367. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LILIA DYBALL BIGA- LOW, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Scrubbing-Stool, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to scrubbing-stools, having for its object to provide a traveling stool upon which the user may kneel while scrubbing a floor and may readily push it about the floor during the performance of scrubbing; and the invention consists in the new construction of such stool, whereby the stool may be folded for compactness for storage or shipment, and also be converted into a receptacle for holding the scrubbing utensils, substantially as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new scrubbing-stool as seen open and ready for use. Fig. 2 is a bottom View of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the stool as seen folded. Fig. 4. is a detached view of a removable brush and soap-holding box.
A represents a stool or platform, which I make in two parts and provide with cleats B B, let into grooves in the under side of the parts A, for the purpose of stiffening and strengthening them, and I join the two parts of the stool with strap-hinges O 0, whereby the stool may be folded for compactness, as before stated.
D D are casters attached to the cleats or under-side corners of the stool, upon which the stool or platform travels.
E is a pad or cushion attached to the forward half of the stool, upon which the user kneels while using it.
F is a box for holding the scrubbing-brush and other articles or utensils. It is removable, having pins ff fixed to the end pieces, which extend below the bottom and are inserted in holes 0 0 for retaining it in place.
Hooks and staples g g are provided for holding the stool closed when folded.
When not in use, the stool or platform is folded, as seen in Fig. 3, with the box F placed between the two leaves, as shown, the pins f f being inserted in the holes 0 0 in the under side of the leaf and the brush and other articles contained Within the box. It will be seen that this enables the stool to be folded in a very compact form and is very convenient for storage or shipment.
Having described my invention, I claim- The herein described scrubbing stool, consisting of the two parts or leaves A A, hinges O O joining said two parts, casters D D attached to the outside under corners of said parts A A, a kneeling pad E attached to one of said parts A, holes 0 0 through one of said parts, and a box F, pins ff, on said box, adapted for insertion in the holes, the several parts being constructed and combined as and for the purpose specified.
