SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,978, dated September 24, 1895. Application tiled August 22, 1895. Serial No. 560,139. (N0 model.)

Beit known that I, CHARLES W. WILLIAMS, major, United States Army, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Tent-Snpports, comprising a device which supports the tent upon a stovepipe and a cap to ventilate and to permit the heated air to escape, While preventing the entrance of snow and rain, of which the following is a specification.

My invention consists of a metallic device or collar and a cap used in combination with a stovepipe, as hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings Awhich form a part of this specification, Figure l is a vertical section of a stovepipe with the collar attached by rivets supporting a tent with the cap in position on the stovepipe. Fig. 2 is a perspective of a cap which tits on the stovepipe over the collar to exclude rain and snow. Fig. 3 is an elevation of a collar with a projecting annular base having lugs attached and cut out, as shown, thereby giving a minimum contact with the heated stovepipe, reducing to a minimum the heat conducted to the collar, and thereby avoiding and preventing the burning of the canvas. It also shows the construction of the collar, which by means of the lugs provides an air-space through which the vitiated air freely escapes. Fig. it is an elevation of collar, showing serrated upper edge, which increases ventilation and permits, when desirable, the cap to be more or less raised without admitting rain or snow. Fig. 5 is a View of the base of the collar. Fig. 6 is an elevation of a fragment of a tent with stovepipe projecting from its apex, showing the collar attached to the pipe and. supporting the tent and with the cap slipped over the pipe resting on the lugs of collar asin actual use.

The letters used on the drawings are as follows:

c b represent the cap.

c CZ j is an interior cylinder extending onehalf or more the depth and fastened to the upper edge of the cap and of size sufficient to slip over the stovepipe.

e e are lugs on the inside of collar, which prevent contact with the heated stovepipe and permit the free passage of heated air from the tent.

f is the collar, provided with serrations which prevent the cap fitting the same too closely and thus cutting off ventilation.

h h is the supporting-ring, to which the tent is sewed, and which rests upon the projecting annular base of and fits snugly about the cylindrical band of collar.

7c is the projecting annular base of the collar.

Z is a stovepipe.

m m are rivets fastening the lugs to collar and stovepipe.

p is a fragment of a tent.

The operation may be as follows: The stove pipe is secured in the usual way to the stove. The ring with the tent attached is slipped over the pipe and rests on the annular base of collar, and then the cap is slipped over the pipe above the collar. l

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secu re by Letters Patent., is-

1. A device of the character described for supporting a tent, comprising a pipe and a collar provided on its interior with lugs for attachment to said pipe, and on its exterior, with detachable means for attachment to said tent, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. A device of the character described for supporting a tent comprising a pipe and a collar, having attaching lugs cut away, and means for supporting said tent, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. A metallic device of the character described for supporting a tent comprising a pipe, a collar serrated upon the upper edge and a cap supported on the pipe above the collar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

4. A metallic device of the character described consisting of a pipe, a cap with linterior cylinder fitting the same and a collar attached to the same, substantially as and for 5 the purpose set. forth.

5. The combination of a collar having serrated edges and a cap having an interior cylinder, as heretofore described, with a pipe for supporting and Ventilating the tent, Substantially as and for the purpose set forth. ro
