Description

(No Model.)
I. P. WEST. DBVIGE FOR CARRYING DISHES, &c.
No. 546,208. Patented Sept. 10, 1895.
WITNESSES llrrrrnn STATES ATENT Fries,
FRANK P. VEST, OF CARROLL, MONTANA.
DEVICE FOR CARRYING DISHES, 84c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 546,208, dated September 10, 1895. Application filed April 23, 1895. Serial No. 546,940. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK RVVEST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Carroll, in the county of Deer Lodge and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Carrying Dishes, &c.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference .being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device for carrying or supporting dishes upon the forearm; and it consists of a tray or plate which is adapted to be strapped to the forearm to provide a fiat surface upon which a waiter or dishes may be placed to enable a person to carry a large number of articles in waiting in dining-rooms, the tray or plate being also combined with a sleeve-protector, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure l is a plan view of my improved dish-holding device, showing it applied; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view.
A designates a pocket which is preferably made up of textile fabric, and in this pocket is placed a plate A of sheet metal or other light and rigid material. One end of the plate is cut away, as shown. To the pocket A are attached straps G G, which engage with suitable buckles, the straps being preferably made up of elastic material, and adjacent to one of the sides of the pocket are attached buttons or other means for suspending a napkin.
The device hereinbefore described is adapted to be placed upon the forearm of the wearer with the cut-away end thereof adjacent to the elbow, and the plate is of sufficient length to position the other end of the same at the wristjoint of the wearer, so that it can be grasped by the hand, if desired.
In use the dishes or other articles of table ware are placed upon the flat surface, so that a large number can be carried and balanced thereon; or, if desired, a Waiter may be placed on the plate and the dishes placed on the waiter, the hand being left free to either balance the Waiter or carry other articles.
The pocket A is preferably attached to a protecting-sleeve D, having a wristband d and a portion which extends a considerable distance beyond the plate, Should the device get soiled in use the plate A can be readily removed from the pocket and the pocket and sleeve Washed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a device of the character described, the combination, of a pocket made of textile fabric, a protecting sleeve to which the pocket is secured, bands or straps attached to one side of the pocket, and buckles attached to the other side of the pocket together with a metal plate positioned within the pocket, said metal plate having a recessed end, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.-
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
