Description
R. E. KELLY.
ELASTIC POCKET FOR GARMENTS.
' APPLIOATION FILED MAY 23, 1911. 1 .062. 1 60.
Patentd May 20, 1913.
mwzrea w wi/t'naoow ROBERT EMMETT KELLY, OF COCOANUT GROVE, FLORIDA.
To all whom it may concern ELA S'I'IC POCKET FOR GARMENTS.
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. KELLY, a
. citizen of the Un-ited States, residing at Cocoanut Grove, in the county of Dade and State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Elastic Pocket for Garments, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in pockets for garments.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of pockets for garments, and to provide a simple, inexpensive and efficient elastic pocket designed principally for use on workin ens overalls and similar garments for ho ding various small articles, and capable of being readily re-' moved from a garment to enable the latter to be boiled or otherwise Washed without injuring the elasticity of the pocket.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to withillustrated the out departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
The figure of the drawing is a side elevation of a portion of a garment, equipped With a detachable elastic pocket, constructed in accordance with this invention. J
In the accompanying drawin in which is preferred. embodiment of the invention, 5 deslgnates a pocket designed for holding 7 various small articles, such as a pipe, watch, rule, and the likeand consisting of a sheet of elastic material mounted on a backing sheet 6, detachably secured to agrarment 7 by buttons 8 and button holes 9.
he elastic sheet, which constitutes, the outer wall of the pocket, liesjwithin the edges of the supporting sheet, and it is adapted to frictionally engage the contents of the pocket to prevent the same from falling out when the wearer of the arment is bending over or assuming a simi ar position.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 23, 1911.
Patented May 20, 1913.
Serial No. 628,951.
The buttons 8 are stitched to the garment and the button holes 9 are formed in the backing strip. Any other suitable means,
however, may be employed for detachably securing the backing strip to a garment. The backing strip is preferably constructed of relatively stiff material, and may be made of leather, cloth or the like. The elastic material of the pocket is arranged flat against the outer face of the backing, and is secured to the same by rows of stitching 10, extending across the bottom of the pocket and divergently up opposite the sides of the same. The elastic sheet is held flat against the backing or supporting sheet by reason of the stiffness thereof, and the pocket, Which has a flaring mouth or entrance, may be made of any desired size, as will be readily understood. When it is desired to boil or otherwise clean the garment 7, the backing and the pocket carried there by are removed so that the washing operation will not affect the elasticity of the pocket.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a detachable pocket, a relatively stiif supporting sheet forming the inner Wall-of the pocket, a sheet of elastic material constituting the outer wall of the pocket, said elastic sheet secured flat against the supporting sheet bya line of stitching extending across the bottom of the elastic sheet and divergently up opposite sides thereof to the open upper end ofv the pocket to form a relatively wide month, said elastic outer wall lying within the edges of the supporting sheet and being held flat against the same by reason of the stiffness of thesupporting sheet, and means for detachably buttonin the supporting sheet to a garment.
a In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the resence of two witnesses.
- R BERT EMMETT KELLY.
